ruby tuesday: still on apples

It was a beautiful day and I didn't have alot of time for my RT journal so I just grabbed the stencils on the top of the pile and went outside to spray a few pages.   Still loving the apples.

When I was in 7th or 8th grade I worked in an apple stand early Saturday and Sunday mornings in the fall.  The days were much colder in MN than they are here in NJ.  Loved the cider they sold.  The real murky kind.  I could describe the taste of the dozen varieties of apples we sold….a skill I have since lost.  I stick with Red Delicious these days as it's the only kind our kids will eat – but at least they have one every day.  I've only made a pie once or twice….a skill I never mastered.  Maybe this year I'll give it another go.  Are you good at pies?  Raise your hand and share your recipe!

Hey girlfriend! I’m no good at pies, but apple crisp is easy and just as good… there’s lots of receipes on line and will send you my receipe if you’d like… your drawing ability blows me away… LOVE the journal pages with the apple and the upper and lowercase A’s… and have you tried honeycrisp apples?!? They blow red delicious right out of the water! Sweet, crunchy… a cross, I believe, between granny smiths and galas? AMAZING!!! OK, gotta run, hope all is well with you! xoxo

Love these pages! The white grease pencil really adds a spark. I make pies but I’ve gotten smart over the years and decided that Pillsbury’s refrigerated crust is more reliable than my own and and tastes just as good with no fuss. It’s “easy as pie” to use! Sorry, couldn’t help myself :)!
    Have a great day!

Ooh cool. I love the blue you worked into it 🙂
Never made an apple pie, but my German mother-in-law-to-be let me have her apple cake recipe — it’s fantastic! And pretty easy to make. I might never have to make apple pie ever!

Dad always used the Jiffy pie crust mix to make his crusts. They are light, flakey and best of all waaaaaaaaaaaaay easier than a lard recipe. Apple choice is crucial. Much as we might love the snap biting into a Honey Crisp of Ginger Gold, they are NOT pie apples. Cortland, Ida Red, Gala & Empire are best. Toss a single choice or a combo of varieties in cinnamon, small dash of nutmeg, smaller dash of clove, dump in the crust lining the pie tin and let it go until the apples make their own juice, bubble and get thick but before you burn the edges of crust. It is really simple.
A crumb topping is nice but i think that it is overkill when you have great apples. A lattice upper crust is pretty but the basic, homey open pie can’t be beat.
also… unlike other fruit pies where you would add some kind of starch to thicken, there is enough pectin in the apple whites that a good cool down period will keep it from being runny when served. Reheat slices to make ice cream melty, rather than serve hot from the dish.

Aw, this was a really quality post. In theory I’d like to write like this too – taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and never seem to get something done.

    Hello Michelle,
again two real nice journalpages to look at.
I love how you layer all the stencils and still don’t get a messy look but a nicely layered look.
the white pencil really makes the letters pop and draw your eyes to them.
    great work !
    greetings from belgium
