romancing the rose

Still infatuated with the classic red rose.

Journal page:  craft paper background (always a great way to start!), tissue paper and wrapping paper scraps, red staples, ribbon, stickers, rubber stamp alphabet, stencil, acrylic paint, gesso, spray paint.  To get the spray paint to drip down your page simply hold vertically against a cardboard backdrop, spray onto cardboard just above the page, and "catch" the drips.  Set aside, remaining vertical until paint dries.

    My old tv finally died which meant we had to get a new one. I like it just fine but was really excited that the box was perfect for a spray booth since it was one of those flat screen TV’s. I use it outside as well since my hubby wasn’t as delighted as I was to see the multicolored overspray splatters on the grass and fence.

    Thanks for detailing what was on the page! I have these fabulous rose and gerber daisy photo stickers, and I think these look like the rose stickers, but anyway, they are so RED, and I’m not even a fan of red except when in context (like, with black), that I love to put them on everything and it gets nutty.
    This is a study for the eyes and I like it very much. Thanks for sharing.

    My husband fashioned a spray box with an old stovetop fan for a vent system….I may have to start using it. I made myself a HIM stencil…aren’t you proud?!? You are so sweet to always share your ideas…you rock!

    “God gave us memory (and Michelle!) that we might have roses in winter.” Beautiful post as always and those journal pages and banner are awesome! Brilliant idea about the spray booth…amazing how far that overspray can travel! xox

    Aha! I was going to write and ask about spraying in c-o-o-o-o-o-l-l-l-d weather. Can you give more details about the hood – is there an exhaust fan? And where did you set up the booth? What kind of respirator mask are you using. I ordered and received a 3M Half facepiece (can you see an images of the half face…)but I didn’t realize that the filters didn’t come with it. So more waiting until I get filters. Questions, and, and, and …
    Are we there yet, Mom?

    When I see these things, all I can say is “How does she DO that?” Great stuff!

    Love that page, especially the squares behind the roses that kind of frame them. I love love roses too, it’s so magic that they exist and are both beautiful and smell so nice! 🙂

    I’ve always been in love with red roses. Thank you for sharing this artwork! And, of course, your secrets 🙂 I’ve gotta start playing with spray paint!

    [smacking forehead] So THAT’S how you get the cool drips and dribbles! I was wondering mightily. Thanks for sharing it with us.
    Oh! And I found a new stencil — the Gothic “L” tag that comes with Gwen Stefani’s L perfume! The tag fell into a shopping bag my husband picked up, so he gave it to me. Free, and the perfect size for ATCs. I bet you could score one the next time you have to venture near a department store fragrance counter.

    Simply beautiful red page M!!! I too have a spray booth though mine is a little smaller….it’s actually an over-sized shoebox but it works a treat for atc sized pieces of paper when I do colour-spraying and also webbing spray. The bonus is I change the scrap paper in there periodically and then get to use THAT in other projects! See how your brains can rub off on people over the internet! lol

    I just wanted to say a big thank you for your generosity in sharing your techniques with us. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out on your own how to get a certain effect, and when you show us the way, it makes life so much easier!
    You = awesome.
