Re-cap

First – Happy Birthday Peter!  17 years ago you made me and Dad parents.  We have been so blessed.  You are such a grown up dude, and such a terrific son.  We love you!

Earlier this month Fallon turned 12!  Twelve!  She’ll go back to middle school next week feeling more confident and cooler than last year.  She knows she rocks.  A week ago made the annual visit to Marineland (in Canada) and saw Sam’s friends the Orcas.  We were lucky to meet up with Sean and Mike who I’ve written about before.  My copy of Chicken Soup hasn’t arrived yet – would have been fun to share it with them.  Can’t believe summer is almost over.  Where did the time go?  Because we have 2 kids birthdays in August I also wonder how they got so old.  Less than a week until we are back in school.  Makes me so sad.

Wednesday we went to a rock festival.  It was a hot day….but very cool too.  As HIM and MCR fans we were loving the line-up.  Great way to celebrate the end of summer as a family.  It was THE BEST!  Better than a Labor Day picnic…….especially when this happens………indulge me…….

…………..and when this happens this too……………

Luckily I had a gift ready.  Because you never know what can happen…….

I had found this shirt last fall when we were getting things ready for their tour that got canceled.  Got one for me, Graham, and Ville.  It’s a Poe shirt…..and you know I love that Raven, with a Top Hat!  Several people asked me if I made it….I wish!  It’s by Affliction and was a must have as it incorporates so many of my favorite images like in the piece below from my stamp line.  He really liked it.  This day was a great consolation prize after having to miss their concert two weeks ago.  I had presence of mind to talk like a normal person and ask and say a few things to each of them.  I even asked for a real life look at some of tattoos.  You’d be so proud of me…I really kept my cool.

Notice that tucked in his arm is my spray painted red wrapping paper and the cool printed plastic bags I showed you a while ago.  (Oh, and he didn’t cut his hair again….it’s up there in that hat.)

And I reminded him I was on the Grave Dirt Crew – giving him a gift the last May that he even mentions in an interview!   See HERE and HERE.  Who knew…when I made the post below….that I’d be posting this today?  Not me!  H.C.I.T. ????  Squeeeeee!

EDIT:  and if all that wasn’t enough excitement for the month, these dates just posted today.  Tickets go on sale next week.

Remembering Diana today.  Ten years.  We were having Peter’s 7th birthday party when we got the call about her accident.  Because I was born after Kennedy passed away THIS is our timeline question.  "Where were you when you heard Diana died?"  It was such a moving funeral service, we got up early and watched all day.  Hearing the bells toll as the procession moved through quiet London streets…..haunting.  Then Sir Elton…..whew.  She was grace.

I was here the day Diana died and wished I had been in London because I would have hit the streets. So poignant; she was adored in Britain.

Beautiful, just beautiful, family pics, Michelle. Happy Birthday Peter! And the HIM pix…I am SO thrilled for you! That shirt (and the packaging) was too perfect! Ville looks very pleased! Dear Diana…I remember going to the British Embassy in Chicago to sign the condolence book. The line of Chicagoans waiting to sign and the flowers left were incredible.

Congrats on the great fan experience!! and you were prepared! bonus.
I was sitting at a picnic table in the dark of night chatting with a neighbor when my best friend (who is British) came rushing over and delivered the news of Diana. We broke out several bottles of wine and sat up for hours talking and grieving.

I am still so jealous and VERY happy for you on meeting Ville for the second time! Still wanting to know how it came to be….
I still remember the day they announced President Kennedy was shot…I was in my 4th grade class and was confused about what they were saying and how they were linking it to Abraham Lincoln. The teachers were sobbing and there was a bit of chaos.
When Diana died I was up staying with my parents, my dad was recovering from surgery and I was there to help. Pretty sad day!
    Until later,

I love your work. The young man was lucky to get your gift!
The night that Diana died my friends and I were drinking long island ice-teas and watching Wizard of Oz while listening to Pink Floyd. We had heard that the music would sinc up to the movie…guess what? the more ice-tea we drank, the more the album went along with the movie! We’ve gotten together on the anniversary every year since.

I remember exactly where I was when Diana died, because it was quite spooky!
I was asleep. Suddenly I sat bolt upright and I had a weird sense of dread. As I was completely awake, I turned on the TV in my room and the news was announced that they had just heard that Diana had died. You could tell that even the male TV announcer on the BBC news was upset.
I’ve never had a spookier experience, it was as if I sensed the event, maybe I even woke up at the moment of her death.

What an amazing experience – you are indeed the ultimate fan having a gift in hand just in case! Good for you getting to spend a moment or two with your band. Amaz za zing tatoo on the left arm.
When Diana died we were at home working in the garden – radio on for sport- interrupted with the news. We couldn’t really believe it. Rushed in and turned on the TV hoping it was a mistake. Such a loss.

You do manage to live life to the fullest & enjoy everything around you-a unique talent! Those baby pictures of your kids are so precious, as are the current ones:) I honoestly don’t remember where I was when Diana died, but I do vividly remember Kennedy, and watching it all on TV, being too young to really comprehend it all, but still so sad.

Time flies all too quickly does it not. Lovely photos of the family Michelle and so glad you got to have so much fun at PR….wish I had been there. It is hard to believe 10 years have passed since that sad day in 1997.

You do have a knack for being one lucky girl! Glad you had the opportunity to meet Ville and the band again…. I actually thought that you had made the Tshirt when I first saw it!
When Dianna died I was on a flight from Vancouver to Hawaii…. the Pilot made the announcement and you could hear the emotion on his voice, and then the shock and disbelief by so many passengers.

  18. carlene Avatar

Wow, you’re a big ol’ celeb now, hanging out with the musicians! How cool, and what a great shirt…it totally does look like something you’d make!
Thought about Diana yesterday too…can’t believe she’s been gone 10 years now, so sad…

OMG Michelle, You are my hero!!!! Very cool shirt as well. Your artwork is JUST AS GOOD, maybe its time for a t-shirt and totebag line to go along with the stamps!…..I think the last famous rocker i ran into was MeatLoaf…..it was the 80’s and we were actually fighting over a pay phone in Livingston Mall…i didnt even know who he was because he had lost so much weight LOL!

Good Lord. This post was the ultimate roller coaster ride. The beautiful Birthday Tributes (please keep us posted re the release of Chicken Soup with your story) then the HIM experience, THEN Sir Elton singing for Diana? Are you mad??!! I went from laughter to tears in 5 seconds flat. I learned about Diana’s death from the newspaper. I sat down on my front porch, feeling like I had been hit by a stun gun.
This was a most amazing post. Your fans applaud you.

I have to admit that I’m a little (okay, insanely) jealous. Great shirt, too! Maybe you could design a tattoo for him? He does seem to appreciate gifts; a fan at a concert I was at gave him a scarf, and there are photos of him on the next day wearing it. Cool, huh?

  26. Mary Ann Avatar

Wow what a looker! Those arm tatoos are incredibly COOL. I love densely patterned ones like that. I’m delighted for you to come face to face with your rock star. Love those pics of your darling kiddos. Naturally the pics of you and Graham are also FAB. Oh…..the t-shirt. #@!! Can you hear me screaming over here?
