planning and procrastinating

When I have alot to get done I tend to procrastinate.  I actually think it's part of my creative process.  Sometimes I'll take up a mini-self-imposed-project that is totally unrelated to an article I should be writing and yet somehow it feeds me enough to get my thoughts focused and the words fall into place.  I've been at the computer which presents a great tempation – not for surfing, but for messing around in photoshop.  It's kinda related to my article, kinda.

You can see the photo I started with above.  Then I made about 17 variations – all part of my self-teaching and keeping up with PS skills, but really, a procrastination.  It's ok, I learned a few things today, even if I didn't get everything crossed of my list.

The party was a success - a perfectly ordered thunderstorm added to the aura.  I will take more photos on the 31st as I didn't do the best documentation of Saturday.  Thanks for chiming in on Fallon's costume and make-up rehearsal.  Like a 13-yr-old, she didn't take advice from ANY of us but was adorable.

Procrastination? Oh, you mean that thing I do when I check my email and read my regular blogs when I’m supposed to be cutting bias tape? I totally dig. Love the photo and subsequent variations though!

I have to impose artificial deadlines on myself. I also ‘make deals’, if I finish ‘this’, I get to do ‘that’. If all else fails, I reward myself with chocolate, I will do ANYTHING for chocolate!

What? Are you totally inside my head today!?! It is totally crazy and I get it about the procrastination being a part of the process. I think of the side projects as a kind of booster shot to get the muse movin! 🙂

Procrastination has such a bad rap, I think !! I still get it done by the deadline, whatever the “it” is, but I bet I have a lot more fun with all the detours along the way than some straight shooting people do !
I like to call it doing things in my own time, waiting for the exact right moment, part of the process, indeed ! Now if only the rest of the world could see it my way !
Here’s to guilt free procrastination !!!!

My art professor told me I did my best work under pressure and time constraints. I completely agree with the idea that working on a little fun side project will only help you focus on the task at hand, with some added flair. I love all the versions of your image! I haven’t mastered the gradients…can you come over while I am recouperating and teach me? Thanks. We can watch Digital Doom and play.

Whoa, your photo collages are WONDERFUL and so VERY COOL!!! I love playing in Elements (which I had the big version), and find that I can loose hours quite easily. Never hurts to learn new things and keep those skills sharp!

Hey, does Fallon look at herself in every reflective surface? I remember doing that, and I know a 13 year old who does it. It’s almost like she’s trying to decide which is her best side. ha! I love it.
What can I say about your style, gift, instincts, which has not already been said?
    moving.

Just AMAZING what you did with that little vignette! Years ago, I read about a real club for procrastinators which I should have been a charter member of. Once you joined, you ultimately got a membership card, but it took months and months to arrive. xoxo

    hello Michelle,
me too, I love what you’ve done with photoshop ! Since you tought me several things, I often play with photoshop. I use it a lot for making my own stamps too…
I’m just back from a four days ‘ girlfriendsweekend” in Bruges and after dwelling around in the beautiful old city the whole day, we went back to our B&B ( a 300 years old building) and we created the whole evening with our “first aid kit for creating”…
I worked in layers too, but with stamps… My halloweencollection ATC’s is grown again. I post about the trip tomorrow and show also the ATC’s.
    I also need to create a new stamp : I don’t have a spider… and I need one… Must get on photoshop tonight…
We’re having a party too on friday ! Ideas are boiling..
    till later
    Inge

This is so cool. I just love Photoshop. Working the layers is my favorite thing and oh those blending modes can transform a layout with one little step. I can’t wait to see more!

Hey Michelle – I want to start playing around with PhotoShop. What programs do I need? I saw something that says Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 / Adobe Premiere Elements 7. Is that what you use?
    Thanks – Mia
