on my desk

Love shopping at tjmaxx, marshalls and home goods.  There are several that are dangerously close to everything.  This weeks score was a journal.  Cheap thrill.  And how about these pins?  What?  Your first stop at the mall isn't Hot Topic?   Usually it's our only destination.

It's time to read up on how to handle the seasonal change with my lovely rose bushes.  I'm clueless and need to figure out what I need to do asap.   It has brought me such simple pleasure to go visit my roses every day and I want to keep them safe for next year.  Any hints?

My cousin Molly sent me this book, 90 minutes in heaven, and suggested I read chapter 2.  I admit I have not read the rest of the book.  All I needed to hear was Don Piper's account of heaven to give me a rush of peace and comfort.  Sure, I trusted that heaven was the kingdom it is promised to be, but his words came at the right time for me.  He describes, in simple words, what it was like to enter heaven.  My take-away is that there are no words yet invented to express the immense joy ahead of us.  My take-away, from this one chapter, was to be thrilled that my sister is there.  Thank you Molly, for this precious gift, for this perspective.  Another book I have found helpful is Surviving the Death of a Sibling.  Grief takes on many faces and it is different for all of us, even within one family.  Shannon was a wife, a daughter, a friend – but she was also my sister.

Love my jumbo size Sharpie paint pens.  Messing around with them makes me really happy.  Love when they smear.  The nib on these things are 1/2" wide!  Get some!!

And the braces are off!  Look at this lovely face.  I promised Fallon I wouldn't blog about her new *friend* (Anthony)….I'm not.  He may have been edited from the photo, but the blush he provoked is there.  Does that still get me in trouble?  *wink*

Congratulations to Kathryn Antyr for being the Top Hat Pick for Crusade No. 23.  It's our second anniversary at the Street Team blog!

Congratulations to the lovely Fallon on the dazzling smile (and to her mom and dad who made it possible!) Feel free to drop me a note if you want some tips about the roses, Michelle. Did I mention I used to be an editor for a national gardening magazine?

Love the pins and the journal pages. Big thanks for doing crusades for 2 years??!!! Wow, that’s so cool!
Have you read The New Earth by Tolle? It’s a recommendation otherwise. I just started. I heart it!

What fun you must have had playing with these pages! And what fun pages.
Tricky about not blogging about Anthony…and yet you did!
    Until later,

Love the art journal pages you are doing at the moment – nice to see you emersing yourself into your art again. I know how hard it can be to get back into “everyday life” after the loss of someone special.
Say Congratulations! to Fallon for me – I got my braces on when I was 21 and off at 23. I know how amazing it feels when they come off – hope she celebrates by smiling and laughing until her cheeks hurt:)
    Love MB.

    Me again….
I think the books you are reading are wonderful – especially the ones about losing someone special.
I remember being given a book after I had to say goodbye unexpectedly to someone. It was a small book called “Peace” with nice pictures and simple sayings. It wasn’t so much the book, but the gesture that touched me and meant so much. It is a positive memory from a sad time. Hope you treasure the books you have and that they bring you some “Peace” too.
    Love MB

Happy 2nd Anniversary to a wonderfully loving, immensely creative and infinitely talented artist and her super cool endeavor !
Thank you for sharing some of the “tools” you have found to help you through the grieving process. I think I need to read the Chapter 2 of the Piper book myself – it sounds like it is very comforting. Anything that helps build your “faith” in this crazy life is a good thing in my books !
Good to know you are “playing” so much too ! Journal is looking spectacular ! So is your daughter ! Love that blush ! (sorry fallon !)

Hot Topic is my oft-confessed guilty pleasure.
I’m glad you are finding comfort. We’re never alone, and it helps to know that others with similar experiences can offer their support.
Fallon looks lovely! I remember getting my braces off, Sept. 10, 2001. I’ll bet Anthony loves seeing her smile 😉

    HIP HIP HURRAY !!!
Happy birthday to the GPP street team and especially to the one who started it all !!!! You hardly know what these challenges started and ignited…( international friends, experimenting with all kinds of stuff,…)
I’m glad I’m one of the street team and I will follow my leader…:)
No, of course you’re not blogging about Anthony ! It’s just a page in your journal : where else does a mom has to write her thoughts about it down, if she may not share this secret with other people…

Wow! Time flies! I have loved taking part in some of these crusades and shall look forward to do so in the future! There is nothing to get the creative urge going like the gentle nudging of a tempting crusade from you, Michelle!
What a great smile, Fallon! I smiled like that for the whole day, when I got my braces off.

    Hey there, Michelle…
I heard that Don Piper’s book is really good, inspirational and reassuring. It was nice of your cousin to send you the book.
And look at those buttons! Cool! Was there an I heart Facebook button, too? It seems that everyone I know who is in the twenties and younger is using that forum to connect with one another. But I heart blogging. 🙂
Fallon got her braces off! Well, that’s cause for celebration. Now she can eat anything without worrying (as I did when I was a teenager with braces) and flash brilliant smiles to her new “friend”. Her hair looks great, btw.
Well, I hope that you are having a good weekend. I’m almost finished with this coughing cold and once that’s over with, you and I should finally (!) get together for a coffee and a chat.

Hi Michelle! I’m a big lurker, but don’t comment too much on blogs. I had to say that I loved Don Piper’s book. I read it once several years ago, then I read it again after my Mom died last year. It was (and is) a huge comfort. I LOVE those blogging pins! Must get to HT to get one! Hot Topic is often the only store we hit in the mall, as well! lol 🙂
