making unlikely connections

As soon as I found this site, Villainess, I knew I wanted to share it with you.  I also wanted to tell you about a *sign* uncovered there – the synchronistic kind of connection I was not looking for but smacked me in the head.  First, the cool site….they have some terrific products.  Perfume oils, soaps, and body scrubs with clever and inventive titles, and interesting scents.

Brooke kindly granted me permission to use images from her site.  How could you not be intrigued by these descriptions?  Signature scent, Villainess:  all ball gowns and combat boots - raw, smokey leather and sweet vanilla musk engulfed in a sheer haze of exotic florals – ylang, neroli, jasmine, lilac and tuberose. Or Byzantium:  precious woods and resins – cedar, pine and sandalwood, frankincense, amber and myrrh – at play against a sheer base of Egyptian musk, barely spiked with imported spices, and lightly veiled in smoke.  I got these two and a handful of adorable and equally appealing samplers of soaps and scrubs.  Go check out the fab selections.

So here is the unlikely connection….Do you see the floral background from Brooke's site?  It reminded me of a similar fabric in brown/black I had scored at Wal-Mart a while back.  Yes, Wal-Mart!  Here's the thing:  on my to-do list before family arrived was to clean my dining room chair seats (a filthy ivory).  By Tuesday night (troops were arriving Thursday) I hadn't touched the chairs and most likely they'd never be dry in time.  It was Tuesday that I stumbled upon Villainess.  So Wednesday afternoon I dashed over to pick up a few yards of the fabric from Wal-Mart, and by dinner time I had recovered 6 chairs!  Scissors, tacks, and less than 3 yds. for less than $30.  A great solution don't you think?  That's how it is when you are open to signs….at the 11th hour unexpected inspiration channels in.  Now my chairs looks great and I smell stunning.

Condolences to the family, friends, and fans of familiar faces who left this week….Ed, Farrah, and Michael.  I can't say I was ever an MJ fan, but I have heard him in our home almost daily….Sam watches Free Willy over and over, it's his special connection to the orcas….he rewinds this track…..HERE.  So another unlikely connection…respecting that Micheal Jackson was not only on the soundtrack for Free Willy, but he is on the soundtrack of our generation.

    Michelle-
Chairs look great. Isn’t it amazing how when you are down to the final hour something just spurs you on to get it done. Sometimes my best work is done that way.
I grew up with Michael’s music, I must have been about 10 years old when he started. I have followed his music and life over the years, sometimes with sadness. His life and passing has affected me in deep personal ways…hard to explain. He will be missed.
    As will Ed and Farrah.
    Until later,
    Judy

Fantastic new chair fabric! I specialize in 11th hour projects 😉 I’m going to have to check out that perfume, it sounds fabulous.
I was never big into MJ either (just not a pop fan) but I always recognized his talent. The feeling of having lost a significant piece of our culture is very strong. Thanks for posting the Free Willy video – I had forgotten that song, but as soon as the video started it all came back to me! Thriller will always be my favorite, but this is the video that sticks with me as one of my most vivid early memories of MTV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8rYl6K2STc

Great job with the chairs Michelle. Thanks for pointing out the Villainess site. Interesting hhmmmmmm.
I am greatly saddened by the loss of Michael who was an icon and Farrah; I grew up listening to his music and watching Charlie’s Angels. It seems so tragic.

Very nice fabric on the chair and interesting messenger bag. Did you add the logo on the bag yourself?

I think I must hop over to the site for my daughter and myself…:)
My house is mostly colorful, but your chairs would look perfect in my october-novemberhouse when it changes in a halloweenhouse….
I was also not a lover of MJ music, but he was a professional, so he deserves to be honored. But maybe he now finally finds the peace he has hardly experienced in his life..
Not all losses are public… so you know I’m thinking of your family these days…
    greets from Belgium

I can feel it….this post is gonna cost me, Big Time.
I LOVE a smokey scent as opposed to a floral.

Love the fabric! I just swapped my dining room set out. We have a resale shop in town. I saw an oak set there. I talked to the owner and she was interested in my 1940’s set so the cost was minimal to me! Thanks for sharing the site with me, I love the smell of frankincense and myrrh. I will have to check it out.
