Serendipity, synchronicity, coincidence…..I pay attention and feel like I'm in tune to the meaning of what happens around me.  I look for connections, significance, in art-making and in life.  Not long ago Lisa pointed me toward these books.  Mr. Rushnell is my kind of guy.  He not only identifies with my favorite, *winks*, but he takes the position that they are God-sent.  I'll buy that.

This month my friend Kathryn posted to her True North Arts blog about serendipity and synchronicity, and the role it plays in the creative process.  I was honored to be an invited guest – you can read her interview with me HERE.  She then challenged her readers to invent a compass.  I didn't have the time to create something this month, but in my studio overhaul I came across a portfolio of old sketches.  Synchronicity!  Check out my compasses.

This doesn't really count as an entry to her challenge, but the message is timely….especially as our oldest has just graduated.  The deadline for Kathryn's prompt is Friday, therefore I'm not-so-timely in directing you her way.  Don't let that stop you.  There is alot to read and think about over there, and I'm certain she has more up her sleeve with future projects.

It certainly is interesting the way signs and symbols seem to guide you. Love your compass sketches.

I will have to check out those books. 🙂 I love compasses and maps and you’d think I’d have a compass stamp by now but I don’t. I’ll have to check out green pepper press to see if you have one. Thanks for the link to the your friends blogs!

Stunning! Love the compass. Reminds me of a song my brother did about ones true north….. Congrats to your three graduates! Been away from the computer and am just catching up on my favorite blogs. As we know, there are no coincidences… only miracles. xoxo PS…. Hello,
I’m sure these compasses will count as an entry for Kathryn’s challenge !!
I loved to see the photos of your family in the previous post. Your mom seems to be a real vital “grandma” ( a bit like my mom I guess : she’s ALWAYS busy, creating, trying to help wherever she can…). I also like the photo where Peter hold Sam in his arms. It tells a lot about Sam and Peter and I’ve seen this “embracement” in several previous posts.
I COMPLETELY understand Sam … Aran has the same reaction when I try to take photos…
    have a good weekend !
    greetings from belgium

I love that word – synchronicity. It feels like what it means when you say it.
I just posted a piece last night that is also for the GPP crusade no. 31 that has synchronicity. I didn’t go into that aspect on my post. But here goes. I wrote a portion of scripture on the piece before I even started painting. As a final touch, I wrote out “Love is patient, Love is kind” on the art that went to my little brother & his bride. At the wedding there was one reading. My older brother started to read – “Love is patient, Love is kind…”. I had goose bumps. Sure, it’s a familiar passage that is read at many weddings, but to get the exact words where they chose to start.
I enjoy the way synchronicity weaves a web of connectedness in our lives and contributes to the sense of belonging.
