Test driving my new carvings.  I just looked back at my blog from March 2007….lots of Lucky Girl posts and even a story of where the name Green Pepper Press came from.  It makes me feel like I’m not showing the spirit this year – but I did carve today because a four leaf clover is one of my favorite images….just don’t expect a card from me, I didn’t schedule my free time very well.

Everyone is Irish today….don’t forget to wear your green, and have a lucky one.  Cheers!

My Aunt Molly sent this….and we say:  If you’re lucky enough to be Irish, you’re lucky enough!

Being Irish Means…….

* you will never play professional basketball

* you swear very well

* at least one of your cousins holds political office

* you think you sing very well

* you have no idea how to make a long story short

* you are very good at playing a lot of very bad golf

* there isn’t a huge difference between losing your temper and killing someone

* much of your food was boiled

* you have never hit your head on the ceiling

* you spent a good portion of your childhood kneeling

* you’re strangely poetic after a few beers

* you’re poetic a lot

* you will be punched for no good reason…a lot

* some punches directed at you are legacies from past generations

* your sister will punch you because your brother punched her

* many of your sisters are Catherine, Elizabeth or Mary…and one is Mary Catherine Elizabeth

* someone in your family is incredibly cheap

* it is more than likely you

* you don’t know the words but that doesn’t stop you from singing

* you can’t wait for the other guy to stop talking so you can start talking

* ‘Irish Stew’ is the euphemism for ‘boiled leftovers from the fridge’

* you’re not nearly as funny as you think you are, but what you lack in talent, you make up for in frequency

* there wasn’t a huge difference between your last wake and your last kegger party

* you are, or know someone, named ‘Murph’

* if you don’t know Murph, then you know ‘Mac’

* if you don’t know Murph or Mac, then you know ‘Sully’

* you’ll probably also know Sully McMurphy

* you are genetically incapable of keeping a secret

* your parents were on a first name basis with everyone at the local emergency room

and last but not least… Being Irish means…

* your attention span is so short that—oh, forget it.

Love the If you’re Irish list, regarding girls names–I know a family with girls Mary Anne, Mary Margaret, Mary Catherine, Mary Patricia, Mary Elizabeth. The one boy is Paul Joseph, by the way.

But you did send a card – you just sent to bundles of us and all at once. I was anticipating your entry today and am so happy to see it. We did a neat thing in kindergarten today. I made a page filled with shamrocks, showed the kids how to mix colors using colored pencils, crayons and watercolors and challenged them to color the shamrocks with as many different kinds of green as possible. It was wonderful. Happy St Paddy’s Day to you

HAPPY ST. PADDY’S!!! That list is a riot. 6 items apply to me, but I’m only 1/8th Irish anyway. Though a lot of those traits are also Italian 😉 Love those stamps, and the whole page looks awesome!

Happy St.Paddy’s Day, Michelle! Look at this – even when you are rushing around like a madwoman with a million things to do in one day, you STILL manage to come up with something terrific for the holiday! Where DO you get your energy??!
PS – I think your studio is a magical place with so many cool finds. 🙂

Loved the list! So funny. I have a little bit of Irish in me and God knows I have the temper !!! (Or so I have been told…….sigh!)
Did you read ‘Angela’s Ashes’ Michelle? THE BEST book I have ever had the pleasure to read…and I also listen to it over and over again. I will never again take a boiled egg for granted. Not ever!! I still cut mine in five pieces in honor of Frank. I love Frank Mc Court so much it scares the shorts offa my hubby. I worry about him and pray for him so that he never knows another ‘hungry’day. I adore him and he is the best story teller there is…….. I am his biggest fan, honest I am! :o)
I also looked forward to your St Patty’s Day post. I knew it would be truly swell and it is! Thank you for being YOU!

Erin go brahless, to you, too!!! LOVE the stamps you made, and am still laughing over the list of Irish tendencies… SO many were applicable to me &/or my family! My studio is in the top of our bungalow, where I fit just fine, but my husband hits his head every single time he’s up there… (moral of that story?… just yell from the stairs… girl doesn’t want to be bothered anyway, right?!?) 😀 Oh, I love him, I’m just kidding! Great post…
your tutorials on carving are wonderful, thank you SO much! I’ve really had a blast. xoxo, K.

You know, but I love being able to identify with most of those Irish-isms.

I had a Hearing Impaired Woman kick my ass for NOT wearing green the other day.
You have never felt remorse til you have someone chasing you down the hall signing at you with HUGE, Waving gestures!
I’ll never make THAT mistake on St. Paddy’s Day again!
    Your Irish-isms are Hilarious.
Happy Clover Day to ya, my Lassie!

I guess I’m at least part Irish, since one of my great-grandmothers was a Sullivan. Those who gave me my surname, though, were Scots. Bagpipes on both sides – gotta love it!

Still recovering from St. Patty’s Day (just kidding, I’m just LATE to the party). Being Mexican-Irish I’d say quite a few things on the list apply to me… oh twell there goes my basketball career. *snort* Can’t wait to see Ur post about Easter. 🙂 ~Monica

I laughed so hard I snorted. My maiden name is Slattery, and my dad’s parents immigrated here when they were wee. I went to Catholic school, preschool-9th grade, don’cha know.
I had cousins- four girls in one family who were of course ALL named Mary. Mary Katherine, Mary Kimberly, Mary Cassandra, Mary Karen. Of course, we *all* had two middle names plus our confirmation name. Joe’s maternal grandmother immigrated here and his maternal grandfather was Irish and German (must have been confusing…LOL)- Grandma Peg’s last name was Manion- which is Joe’s middle name, and we gave it to all my kids as their second middle name, thus ensuring the four name confusion heads into yet another generation.
