i’m a lautrec dunce

MW lautrec

I admit it, I don’t know much about the artist or the man.  But lucky me, I have good friends who adore him, and we are off for a girls weekend together where we will visit an exhibit at The Clark.  There will be some driving involved so I gathered some tunage, and had to include the Moulin Rouge soundtrack.  I got stuck on youtube for a while this week – watching Susan Boyle wow us all.  THAT girl can wink!  Then I had to re-watch Paul Potts from an earlier Britains Got Talent.  Some great goosebump moments that I love watching over and over again.  Don’t you?

I ended up back here:

Lautrec, I love the movie they made of his life with Mel Ferrer. Black and white, but good. His paintings of the dancers were beautiful. I hope you have good weather and enjoy the show.

Toulouse Lautrec sounds good!! And i love it when internet connects us, like with Susan Boyle. I saw it monday evening and watched it several times. I admit to one of the jury members to not letting us be presumptious by the looks nor age of a person. SHE rocks (loved it when she reacted to another jury member who claimed she was a tiger: no, i am not, really not). YOU rock! Have a great weekend!!!

I’m a big fan of Toulouse Lautrec and based my term paper in Post-Impressionist Art History on him. The class after I handed it in, my professor went into a rant as to why he was an awful, detestable, little man. As if artists had to be paragons of virtue! The clean lines, Japanese influences, and wise use of negative space has inspired generations of fine and commercial artists. You are in for a treat, Michelle. Enjoy!

    Hello Michelle,
I only flew once in my life and that was 3 years ago to Barcelona….
I have been lucky to see the real work of Toulouse Lautrec in one of the museums there.
They are really nice, but one of the things I think I remember that they were made on cheap blank “newspaper”paper !!!
His life wasn’t such a romantic life…. but he left us beauty !
Susan Boyle was indeed one of the revelations of the week : I saw the video on monday and was moved to tears. I’m still when I see it back…. I really hope this is the start of a new happy life for her where she can “use” her talent.
Do you know her backgroundstory ?
She always had been teased because of her curly hair and because they thought she was a bit handicapped. She comes from a big family and they have been singing a lot since she was little. She stayed home with her mom after her father died and when she died too, Susan didn’t sing anymore because of her sorrow.
she never had a boyfriend, she’s still a virgin,…but then she took the decision to write herself in for the “Britain got talent”, thinking she had nothing to loose…
I really hope it brings her happiness and joy and that she won’t be exploited by the “business”…
It reminds me of a quote I found this week :
” We are here on earth to fulfill a purpose. That could be anything.
Some people are a blessing just by being here.
Others create something of a value that stays.
Everybody can become a light in the darkness of someone else”
    Anselm Grün
    hugs
    Inge
