good news bad news

I was going to say, "here is what's going down", but that's not a nice reference as tomorrow marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.  Here's what is also not so nice:  I've been a victim of identity theft.  Someone has been impersonating me online by leaving rude and inappropriate comments on blogs.  Think about it, it's easy to do.  You can leave a name and an URL without verification in most places.  We trust that people use their own name and address, right?  The thing is – you leave a trail with your IP address.  I have learned of several instances of this occuring and luckily I was able to confirm it wasn't me because the IP addresses differ.  I'm not sure why someone would choose my identity to do this, and I'm not sure why they chose to be mean to the bloggers who were targeted on the receiving end.  Both of these gracious women are bloggers I have never met or corresponded with prior to these events.  I hate to think of how many other times this may have happened that I don't know about.  I do know where the person works and hope to resolve it.  Do me a favor, if you can search your comment database for IP address 64.55.153.216 please let me know.  (Easy to do on typepad, not sure how other platforms operate.)  I'm hoping this person has slipped up and used their own name somewhere.  Thanks for your help. EDIT:  the issue has been resolved, perpetrator found.

EDIT:  Impersonating someone online is illegal.  Perpetrator is from California, breaking this law:  SB 1411  This bill would provide that any person who knowingly and without consent credibly impersonates another actual person through or on an Internet Web site or by other electronic means, as specified, for
purposes of harming, intimidating, threatening, or defrauding another person is guilty of a misdemeanor.

Now that the bad news is out of the way, the good news is that both of the anticipated shipments have arrived.  The stamps and the stencils are here!  Pre-orders will go out Monday and the rates on the products will change back to standard pricing by Monday too.

When I mentioned the bad news affair on facebook I got so much support and I really appreciate my friends circling around with kind words.  For some reason the post disappeared, which is so frustrating but I thank all of you who came by in friendship.

My Great Aunt who lived to 105 and dies not too many years ago was on a boat bound for Australia from England when the Titanic sank!
We can all get to see the 3d version soon.
    Love the stamps.

Look at the link I listed above where you can search for ip addresses.
There is no way on blogger to search for ip addresses unless you have previously installed some counter. I hope your imposter gets caught!!

Carrie told me about your ID theft, Michelle, and I couldn’t believe someone would do that you to you! It’s so awful that someone as kind and caring as you has to go through this. I hope it’s resolved soon. The stamps and stencils look fantastic and I know a certain someone who will be eagerly waiting for hers! Hugs sent your way!

That is terrible. How rude. I mean identity theft for commenting? People are nuts! Sorry it happened to you. I hope it isn’t a portent of things to come for all of us leaving our IP address hanging out all over…………yikes.

As I said on FB, this is so bizarre. Why a person who choose to spend their time doing something like this is so beyond me completely.
I am so sorry for the hurt it has caused you, Lovely Michelle. One thing I know very well, is that Karma is a bitch, and this person will face consequences for their actions. Your bright like will keep shining through.
The stencils and stamps are soooo yummy !
I hope the day is full of pleasanter, blooming things for you today ! HUgs !

Oh, Michelle, I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with this stinker. You’re way too nice a person to have to put up with this. I can only assume that he/she will get boils in unfortunate places, or something similar.
Yay! for the stamps and stencils, can’t wait to get mine.
Big hugs, have a wonderful Spring.

What an experience to have to go through — for both you and the bloggers who received the comments. The things people do never cease to amaze me.
And I agree that your stamps and stencils are good news!

  14. Carrie Avatar

I still don’t understand why anybody would to that to you. Lemme know if you need someone to throw a few punches 🙂
On a happier note, YAY for new rubber and stencils!

The good thing is that no one who knows anything about you at all would ever believe that you would be unkind or ungracious. Hopefully this person will be stopped soon. You know you have oceans of love and support here in the artistic community.

I’m not on Facebook and didn’t know about this. I’m a lame-O about IP addresses. The fact that they removed their comments does that mean I can’t search that IP address any more? Is it not true that an IT person can find that computer? I know someone who might be able to help.
I would imagine it’s a misdemeanor whether they say mean things or nice things. What a sad life that person has.
I can’t wait for my stencils. I’m sitting at the table with fork in one hand and knife in the other. eh… brush and palette knife.

I’m sorry that that happened to you. The day after Christmas ’11, someone used my Pay Pal account to buy $100 worth of itunes. Thankfully it got straightened out in a week or so, but it was pretty upsetting.
The new rubber and stencils look very cool indeed!

I stopped by to comment on how great your Somerset Studio stamp carving article was but then I see this post and I want to say that I am so sorry to hear that someone did this to you. Obviously if it happened on my blog I would have been completely shocked because that is so outside what I know about your personality. You have always left such nice comments on my blog. Stay tough and karma will strike.

Sorry this happened to you, Michelle. I’m always amazed when I hear stories like this… the perpetrators must be very troubled souls. Just dust off the experience… they can’t go untouched… trouble always comes back around to haunt those who fling their dirty laundry at you. Don’t let what they did affect you… that would give them too much pleasure… people know you’re a sweet soul!

Thanks everyone. With a little detective work between myself and a friend we solved the mystery and are taking steps to prevent further abuse. I appreciate the love and support and super sleuthing from my private eye pal.
