Distractions

Oh my!  Just the remedy for mourning the end of the season of L.A. Ink – Project Runway returns on Wednesday.  Fallon and I will sit with our sketchbooks and play along.  My favorite part is when they show the artists drawing in the studio.  Don’t you agree we should see more of that?

This just in from tonights silkscreen class.  I tried a few printed dead center, then made some with the print on the bottom, front and back.  If you have to ask what it the text is, you haven’t been reading my Street Team blog long enough.  (HINT:  they are song lyrics.)

I loved using this brown ink on the turquoise and peach shirts (hard to see, it’s not black) but they were rejects because the shirts had this weird 2-ply cotton and it slipped when I was squeegying it.  Dang!  I guess I’ll stick with the red, like HERE.  Next week I’ll try white on black.  Susanna was clever and brought a BOX of rubber gloves.  THAT was genius, especially because I am such a slob and you can’t be when you’re doing these.  Thanks girl!

It’s always interesting to try something new.  It makes you look at your default style of art with a new perspective.  Working with fabric has been a lesson in addition to trying my hand at larger graphics.  I’m dying to squeegy some acrylic paint through these screen stencils onto paper.  Dare me???

*singing at top of lungs* We are like the living dead, sacrificing all we have for a frozen heart and a SOUL ON FIRE!!! That’s one of my top 3 favorite HIM songs, with The Sacrament and Heartache Every Moment.
Gotta get back to watching Project Runway. I missed ALL of last season! But there’s a hometown boy on the show this season, so even though I don’t know him I gotta see how he does 😉
Acrylics for screen printing? Why not? What’s the worst that can happen?

I know NOTHING about silkscreen. Sign me up for the class! Do you have to CUT that stencil first??? Looks difficult especially with those little words. I better go google SILKSCREEN how to’s and see the process. those shirts look GREAT. The rock posters, uh I mean paper, will be v.v.v. cool too.

YOU are definitely one of my musi. WHAT is going on here?! I love the silkscreening, and I love the Project Runway, (haven’t watched my DVR yet) and the idea of photos of people drawing and sketching and painting and doing things to each other is a BRILLIANT idea!
Did I go to far, again?

p.s. I LOVE putting brown with other colors. Sounds obvious and not worth mentioning? Well, chocolate brown with turquoise? HEAVEN. Brown and pink? What about chocolate brown with lime green. Don’t tell me you aren’t going to try it. I love brown with golden maize color, of course, but what about brown with lavendar, brown with silver, brown with navy.
    I’m down with brown.
    just… MUSIN’

… just love the Soul on Fire in red. It was great sharing the three hours of silk screening class time with you every Tuesday, Michelle.
I feel you have expressed many ideas which have led me on many delightful personal sojourns, through-out our time together. On my next photo shoot next Saturday, I will strongly consider and interpret many of your motivating suggestions and the photographs will be fantastic.
    Thanks for Him.

R U gonna sell the shirts? I want a nice gothic one with your images……..I love girly white tees with black and red imagery. I’m trying hard to stamp one right now but it looks too messy……..
Please do think about selling tees Michelle. Hard to find ones I like out there……..I like swirlys, crosses, letters and numbers and such…..but I don’t like a lot of skulls and I see a lot of that for sale……..I guess I am not that goth yet :o)
    A fan of yours

Hey Michelle! Love, love, love your shirts!!! You can sell them to your bloggers! Major profit! My HIM shirt is short sleeved…I am just wearing a long black sleeved shirt underneath. My fave local band had heartagram stickers on their guitars, so I would assume they could play HIM…dorks. I didn’t get to see HIM when they were just here…drats. Maybe you and I can meet somewhere and see them, preferrably Europe…ha ha! Let me win the lottery first!

Do it! I dare you (just mix some medium with the acrylic ink so it doesn’t block the mesh, or your teacher might get kranky!) Great results. Love the brown.

love the T’s…and remember, there are no failures, just “prototypes”, LOL!!!
I think the ‘reject’ one is my fave actually… the word ‘reject’,& the circles
around the smaller text are awesome graphics…I would totally buy a T with those graphics…but then of course, you are the Queen of Graphics, so it’s no wonder, lol!

Love the shirts! I am slowly gaining the courage to try silkscreening on fabric…I agree with the others’ opinions, if you were to sell your designs on shirts, you would do WELL!!! You’re doing photo-emulsion, right?

!! The soul on fire shirts! I’d buy the red one in a flippin heartbeat!
Please do consider selling the shirts, I have no doubt that they will do well. Even with the simplicity of just the lyrics in the corner of the shirt, it’s 10zillion times better than anything hot topic or the heartagram store could ever put out.
