Grimmshirts

Thank you to all who sent their public and private thoughtful sympathies for my Aunt Kitty.  A great lady who will be missed by many.  I was grateful to be in Minnesota with my family.  I really needed a little levity and found it at the airport, of all places!  Saw this shirt and had to get it.  I visited the manufacturer’s site to capture these graphics to show you more of their clever t’s.  Hope they make you smile too.  (grimminc.com)

Fivegum

Have you seen this new gum?  The packaging rocks and the gum is good too!  I was impressed that it was from Wrigley.  Very hip.  (It’s not even on their website yet but the tv ads are cool).  I used to collect gum wrappers as a kid – even had a few prized foreign language ones.  It’s cool when someone knows what you’re into and they bring you cool stuff for your collection.  I had Juicy Fruit in Japanese.  Say it…… (how cool is that?)

Juicyfruit2

I just have to rant for a minute about gum wrappers.  Where are they?  Have you noticed that most gums that come in stick form no longer have a paper wrapper?  It’s foil only.  Now I can’t complain about the new FIVE gum I just showed you because those foils rock.  But where’s the paper?  How are you supposed to make gum wrapper bracelets?  Honestly!  And while I’m ranting about Juicy Fruit being wrapper-less did you know the gum is now YELLOW?  Really, go check.  What happened to that classic cement gray color?  Forget the yellow.  I remember visiting my grandfather and he had a candy closet that was always stocked with Juicy Fruit.  The whole closet smelled like it.  The scent reminds me of him.  That’s the ONLY reason I continue to buy it.

We are heading up to Marineland this week.  Whale tales to follow when we return.  I always bum out when the summer winds down because I don’t want this time with our kids to end.  Savoring the last of it….

Hi darlin’. It was great to see you in MN even if the circumstances sucked. Love the slogans, but had to comment on the Wrigley gear. Did you know that’s the name of Barrett’s dog? We named him after the ballpark in Chi-town where the Cubbies play, not the gum, but non-baseball fans ask us if we named him after the gun all the time.
Don’t forget I’m coming (1/2way??) to NYC in early January and I’d love to see you. Don’t know if I mentioned how much I liked the prayer cards… Good work (or supervision anyway) Keep those creative juices flowing and have fun in Marineland

    Hi Michelle,
I just found your website recently and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought I’d join the fun and added a little music to my blog.
    Thanks for the inspiration.

On first glance the gum looks like ‘fantastic plastic’ or some new art material. The packaging is fabulous.

Hi Michelle, I just wanted to say I absolutely love your blog! It’s such an inspiration to me. Also, I received the Pyramid Collection catalog today and was struck by this wall piece:

It reminds me of your style, and I was getting all kinds of ideas about spray paint and stencils and masks…. Wouldn’t something like it look cool on the back of a hoodie or black jacket? Anyway, thank you so much for putting your ideas and artwork out there!

It’s yellow, really?? Juicy Fruit reminds me of my mom who chewed it constantly when I was a kid. I haven’t had any in years but I think I would have a hard time buying the new fruity package–it just seems wrong to me. The best part about JF was finding it at the bottom of my mom’s purse, the intoxicating smell, the ambiguous grey…like candy for grown ups.

The packages of Juicy Fruit introduced in 1946 & 1987 are the ones I remember so fondly – flavor, smell and chains!
    The gum is now YELLOW?!?!??!?!?
    That’s just wrong!

Even though I’ve never chewed much gum, this brought back a lot of memories! Yellow gum is very wrong, you’re right there!

So my 10 yr old tried the Flare this wkend and she said…Mmm, tastes cinnamony with a burst of fruit.
Do ya think she’s seen one too many commercials? She sounds like a human advertisement. So naturally I had to try it. By golly, the little rockstar was right!
Anyways, I’ve recently found your blog and I’m thoroughly enjoying your “un-ruffly-glittered up” style! Very refreshing 🙂
