For years I would collect Absolut ads from magazines. Always easy to find in the first or last few pages of a magazine. Always a major score when the ad was the back cover. New York magazine would have an annual holiday surprise – one year it was an ad that had a liquid covering and floating white stuff in it like a snowglobe in 2-D. Another year there were Absolut logo real nylon stockings enclosed. Still have them.
You may remember some of these….Had the Warhol framed on my wall. The "Catch" is from a recent online contest. I always wanted to submit a design of my own. "Absolut Approval" would have been my slogan….with the bottle shown inverted, in wood, as part of an old style handled rubber stamp….and yep, a stamped "approved" marking across the page. You can see hundreds of ads in this gallery HERE. (They still don’t have an "approval"!)
It was an exciting day when the first book came out. So many ads I hadn’t seen. So much cleverness. A week ago I picked up the sequel. Fun to chill out at the pool and browse through the pages of both books. The magazines I’m into buying now don’t have ads for vodka so I’m a little out of tune on what they’ve been doing but I do enjoy visiting the site from time to time. Very cool.
And I’m loving the new PEAR flavor.
I’ve always wanted to go to an ice bar. I wouldn’t care if it was an actual Absolut bar….but I would like it to be in Finland. Any wagers why???
Do you love that Escher carved in ice? Wouldn’t this be a great place to hang out? They give you coats.
I am heading out of town for a few days. Sadly my aunt lost her battle with cancer and we are gathering to celebrate our memory of her. On that note…..SEIZE THE DAY!

I’m a Smirnoff girl myself 🙂 Pear Absolut sounds lovely, though, I’ll have to check it out. Many condolences in relation to your aunt. I lost my mum just a couple of months ago, and you are right, sure does focus the mind.
So sorry for the loss of your aunt. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Take good care. xxooxx
I had a passion for Absolut til my other dad turned me on to Skyy. Kept the Haring ad for years. I’m terribly sorry to read about your aunt, we lost my aunt to cancer in 77 and my mother was given two years two years ago, however she’s still doing amazingly well. Appreciate them while you have them!
I remember those Absolut ads, too. They were and still are so creative. Back in art school, in the photography department, we had to photograph a beer, wine or alcoholic beverage for a class project. Mine ended up being an Absolut Man Ray. I think YOUR Absolut Approval idea is way better! You would have been the class star, Michelle! 🙂
Sorry to hear about your aunt, Michelle. Have a safe trip out west and we’ll get together when you return.
I’ve always loved the Absolut ads! That is such a great concept for an ad campaign. Wicked clever!
Sorry about your aunt. Have a good journey.
I had no idea there was a sequel out! I have the first book, also. And binders filled with the ads. I saved them for years and when I was teaching art, wanted to use them as an example of marketing – but alcohol? Not so good. Glad I could start collecting MILK ads. BTW, they have a book also!
Michelle, I’m so sorry about your aunt. Have a safe trip, and I really will take your advice & sieze the day.
We will have to wear our nylons together I still have mine as well!

It’s too bad when good campaigns get the axe.
So sorry to about your Aunt, may you celebrate the life she enjoyed.
I love the posters – my fave drink is caprioska, made with absolute of course!

in LAS vEGAS, the Vodka Bar itself is a frozen surface
and there’s an icy cold VAULT for Vodka
Tasting..you must wear a big coat to go in, and
