treasures

First treasure:  getting to spend time with my Grandmother while in MN.  I finally got a photo of her with this triptych, a favorite of mine.  She's had it on her grand table as long as I can remember.  A short time ago I was prowling around ebay trying to find one similar to hers.  Not having a photo of it I went by memory, and I think I did pretty well with my score.  It's much smaller in scale, but it sits on my table now and reminds me of her.

I won't give away her age, but you can gather what it might be since my Dad (her son) turns 71 TODAY.  Happy Birthday Dad.

Another treasure:  Seth, my friend at The Altered Page, launched a viral plan last week – to revisit an old blog post in his adventure called Buried Treasure.  He is inviting participants for round 2 tomorrow.  Isn't that a cool idea?  Visit Seth to see his long list of players from last week and to see who joins in for another go at it.  If you are a blogger why not do it too?  Check back to see my submission in the morning.

This got me thinking:  What do you consider a great blog post?  Is it the content?  The attitude?  Some bloggers are wordy, some are visual.  Some are both.  Do you prefer one over the other?  I bet there is a difference in what we consider good depending on whether we are the reader or the writer.  As a blog writer I tend to judge good posts by the number of comments it gets.  You tend to think readers leave feedback when your thoughts or images jive with their own interests.  And while we don't assess our success by comments it does give us a sense of what hits the mark with our audience.

I have selected a favorite archived post to share with you tomorrow because I know it was one that was a turning point for me personally, giving me confidence in how I blogged, and what was ok to share.  I'm curious….what was the post that made you bookmark me and want to come back?

See you tomorrow.

“what was the post that made you bookmark me and want to come back?”
Posts, not post. The combination of art and real life. Yes you make stunning art, but you also care about your family, are proud of your kids, grow roses – you show us a real person. Your blog doesn’t feel like some giant trap just to get people buying off you.
What made me bookmark you? Truth and real life honestly shared.

Welcome home Michelle ! I am glad you had some good summer family time !
I went looking back to when I first “found” you…I was brand new to blogging in March of 2008 and I joined Crusade #18 – Cut It Out. I remember reading the challenges and the comments, visiting other artists and seeing what you had inspired them to create, and realizing right away that the sense of community that was built around your blog and the GPP Street Team Crusades was something I wanted to be a part of. I also remember saying the David when you first visited my blog : “The famous Michelle Ward left me a comment !!!” -He still brings it up sometimes, because although you were “famous” to me, blogger newbie, I am sorry to say that my hubby hadn’t yet heard of you…he knows who you are now though !
You have brought so many people into the best world of blogging, Michelle, the blogland where people get to be real, get to share themselves without fear and where we can support and care for each other as we all face life’s challenges. It is a great place to be, and I am so very grateful that you are in it with me ! 😉
Much love, and looking forward to seeing your favorite treasure tomorrow !

The book True colours is what made me find your blog, and I have honestly no idea which post I first visited… Your art caught my eye, and your personality and style made me want to keep coming back.

What a fabulous icon! It’s great that you got to spend time with your grandmother 🙂
What got me reading your blog? Well, it started with the paper theatre you had in Somerset Studio’s Halloween issue. The one with Ville onstage. I posted about it, you found my post, and I started reading and found that not only do I love your artistic style, but we’re fans of a lot of the same things (which probably influences the style which would be why I like it, ooo cyclical…). Your open, friendly, and encouraging personality really takes the blog over the top, though.

LOL when I read Maj’s comment. For me too it was True Colors and I still have my notebook I took notes on when reading the book. Everyother page in the notebook you see Michelle Ward’s name. At that point, I started searching you out and found your blog. I started ordering your stamps, and finally was privileged to take one of your workshops. You are a special gal, one that is blessed. Your grandmother is looks fantastic…. Cherish the time – which you are! xoxo

Great eye (and memory) with that icon! Love the picture of Grandma Kelly too. I can not remember the first post I saw on your blog. Wish I had time to go back post by post and find it! I just know that whenever I visit your blog I find great art, humor, wonderful recommendations, happy stories, sad stories, and so much more. I find life here!

I can remember the first time I discovered your site but this is definitely my favorite post! Grandmothers, special trainers that coach and teach and Seth…these are a few of my favorite things!
