there it is

MWrose08

I'm not one to 'pick a word' for the new year.  However, this year, one came to me.  Don't you love when that happens?  When you least expect it, there it is.  I have been working on some journal pages to wrap up and document thoughts, and processes, and evidence from '08.  I looked back through my journal and there are a lot of roses.  The year began with red roses, but ended with pink ones.  I know that roses will always be a favorite image and will continue to show up in my work, my studio, and my home.  One of my defining words for 2008 would be *rose*.   And there it was, my word for 2009……

My friend Kathryn presents a prompt on her Soul Journal site to discover your defining word or words.  It's a worthy exercise, to esteem toward something, to attempt at achieveing something, so set the course for '09.  As I said, I don't usually define myself until the end of the year.  But *rose* led me to *_ _ _ _*.  I used the word in my last two posts (oops, 2 of the last 3 posts).  That's how I knew the word came to me.  It was an obvious choice to claim it, and has several meanings for me – creatively, spiritually, and cleverly.  Can you guess what it is?

    I have to say, and I don’t mean to borrow in any way, but I do notice that roses and rose imagery helps me to RISE to any challenge. I believe it is because my mother’s name was Rose, and still is. And My friend Jeanette rose to the challenge I set her, and made a Rose mosaic for me for my mantel, to honor my mother. I look at it when I want my spirits to RISE.

    Aww, I just re-read your post and I think “rise” now, too.

    Rise or Wink would both work (as you used them both in 2 out of 3 posts!). Maybe you need two words this year πŸ™‚

    Hmm, I am not sure I could pick one word either. Rise,or Wink? I am not sure but whichever one it is I am sure you will take it to a new level of creativity and fun. I read your blog and it helps me see things in a new light that I might have missed. I look forward to traveling this path with you.

    I too, associated ‘Rose’ with ‘Rise’, then reread your other posts and thought maybe ‘Gift’, ‘Love’ or ‘Wink’ would fit, but am going to stick with RISE as my guess.
    Warm ((HUGS)) your way…

    *carefully trying not to read other comments before I write mine…*
    I’m guessing your word is Rise. It’s an excellent word. And an excellent thing to do.

    Your posts are always so fun. I love how you will sprinkle in a riddle here or there. I have even more fun reading the responses and picking up on their vibes. How delighted I am each and every time when I see my name and a link to my blog. As I looked through your gorgeous grid of roses I *winked* when I saw Inge’s “You make a difference” pin and card. I was the lucky recipient of one and I pull it out and enjoy it at my computer or work table from time to time.
    *RISE* is a wonderful word. My posture straightens just thinking about the word and I can’t help but want to be my very best.
    {soul hugs}

    I mentioned to Kathryn that you posted about her “discovering your word” post on her blog. She mailed me back that she spotted my badge on your photocollage …
    I was so impatient to let her know about your posting that I hadn’t seen in myself ! I guess I need better glasses…
    It’s good to see it between you other “roses” : the red ones and the pink ones…
    Sleep well ! ( now I’m really gone to bed..)
