the view from here

While the rest of the world is racing by – school buses and UPS trucks blast down the street about 40 feet from my bedroom window.  But just beyond the sash is a pine tree, where a mama and daddy dove have taken up residence.  Each morning I open the window and whisper hello.  Winston waits patiently to take his perch on the sill and spends hours watching them.  Today I startled the mama and off she flew….revealing her lovely pearl.  It was hard to get the photo – had to reach way around the tree and got a couple of blurry shots (while in my jammies!) but I wanted to be quick so she wouldn't stress out and could come back.

I am grateful for my daily visit with the dove family.  They are a quiet calming reminder that whatever else happens today, I am lucky to be a wife and a mother in a little nest of our own.

COOOllll photos, Michelle. I remember when my three kitties were still alive – I had birds nest in a hanging flower pot on my third floor condo patio. Bird babies hatched and all four of us had such a fun time watching the commotion. Mama and Papa taught the wee ones to fly using my patio furniture to perch on. Golden Boy, Tabitha, and Cricket James were so quiet — hopin’ — wishin’ — and dreamin’ that they could sneak out the screen door and join the fun! Thanks for sharing it brough back some fun memories.

    Hello Michelle,
hope you have the chance to see the egg come out ! Wish I could have seen you strolling around in your pyama…
I had to laugh when I saw your cat… it’s so recognizable…We have 6 cats and they can stare like that too. They also can wait for hours patiently watching our gerbils ( “desert-rats”) who live in an old aquarium (without water of course..:)safely after glass.
Even the cat of one of the neighbours ignore my cats ( they are not really house-defenders..), comes in quietly through my veranda-door and sits watching the gerbils behind the glass until I tell him I don’t need extra cats…
Within one month we have summervacation and then I have more time to enjoy “my nest”.In Belgium we call people who like to be at home in their “nest” : ” a home-dove”….
I love my work, but sometimes I wish I could be a stay-at-home-mum…When I come home I have very less desire to go anywhere than be home and enjoy my family, my house, my garden, my “creative space”,…
When do you have summervacation in America ? When reading some blogs I thought some of the Americans have already vacation or am I wrong ?
In the meanwhile enjoy your “nests” ( outside and inside)
    greetings
    Inge (from Belgium)

    Sigh…..
….how I wish I had learned photoshop years ago and could add drawing and embellishment to my photos. I am still stuck in the land of iphoto.
Love the doves. I’m watching my hummingbirds flutter around the nectar.

Great photos. Watching birds nesting is such a blessing. Unless you’re a cat, when I guess it is more of a frustration 😉 Our big old cat, Socks, sits on the neighbours roof for hours, spying on the nest in the corner of their roofline. Just watching and waiting…

Aren’t the doves wonderful? I had a friend that had a grapevine wreath on his patio. The wreath had one of those decorative birdnests on it and a dove made this her nest. Once she laid her egg, she would hardly leave the nest and he was able to touch her one day. Her eyes got huge and I don’t think she was happy but she didn’t fly away.
Nature is wonderful inspiration! Keep us updated on your new friends.

Wonderful pics M. Although I don’t have any nests, I do get regular visits from King Parrots and Kookaburras and have seen a family of Fairy Wrens lately. I’m so lucky where I live as they are so many birds…. and like Winston Baillie and Harley just sit and stare at them through the window….
