temple and saints

Set your tivo, or tune in beginning Saturday to HBO for a two hour special on Temple Grandin.  I had the pleasure of hearing her speak more than ten years ago at the release of her book Thinking In Pictures.  She's a genius.  This is going to be good!

Awesome, I’ll have to remember to tune in!
And you’re a Saints fan? Rock on! I can’t say I’m a fan, per se, but I’m definitely rooting for the Saints in the Superbowl. For one, NOLA is one of my favorite places in the entire country, and for another, as a B’more fan I just can’t root for Indy.

    Hey there Michelle,
I am originally from New Orleans and after Katrina and all that horror down there, the Saints could really use something to lift their spirits down there. In the last game between the Vikings and Saints it was kinda hairy around this house. My husband is from Minnesota and I am from New Orleans. I told him he owed me one cuz he talked me into voting for Jesse Ventura. So it was the one and only game I have watched from beginning to end. I quite enjoyed watching both teams actually. Both played an excellent game. I may turnout be a football fan after all! :o)

Thank you for pointing out this movie! We don’t get HBO but will figure out some way to see it. My 10yr old has Asperger’s. He’s doing awesome now…this wasn’t always the case.
We’re for the Colts (or Horseshoes as my little girl says) since the Saint’s beat up our Vikings.

I just watched Temple Grandin and had a lump in my throat thru out this wonderful movie. I thought Claire Danes was outstanding. Right afterward, I watched the 5 part BBC docu on YouTube, The Woman Who Thinks Like A Cow…highly recommend both. xoxo

Linda, I agree…Claire did a fabulous job. What a terrific capture of Temple, and her life with autism. It is such a wonder that we are able to see into her world, and know a little more about how their minds work. Watching it made me feel, once again, what a gift it is to have Sam in our lives. I havent seent the youtube clips you recommend. *runs to view now* thanks. xo

Hmm, I have to try and find the book now Michelle. One of my staff has an adult son with Aspergers, who still lives at home, and I would like to understand more of what thye go through as a family.

    I captured it on TIVO.
We have the privilege of living right down the road from the CSU vet hospital where Temple is on staff. Needless to say, she’s a local celeb.
Here’s to spreading the word, the information, the education. Here’s to the trail- blazed.

I watched. It was wonderful. When she was designing the part where the cows move into the dip I thought to myself those are the exact things Taylor would focus on or notice. I could also identify with the scene where the Mom was sitting on the stairs trying with her heart and soul and Temple just stared at the fan. Been there -at a much earlier age- but I know the feeling. I am still amazed by the amount of educated people who have no clue what autism means or entails. I am for anything that raises awareness.
I still get bogged down thinking I want her to be “caught up” with the other kids, etc but that is selfish. Just because she is a little different doesn’t mean doom and gloom. She is happy and funny and sweet and unique. Society is the one with a problem.
Claire Danes will be nominated for an award for this.
