It's here! The red apple cookie jar I gave to Mom and Dad as a house warming gift for their new home a few years ago in remembrance of the one we had as kids…..is now in my newly painted red kitchen! Yay! Time to bake.
New crusade is up. Come see.

It was foggy one morning this week….took the photo of the trees in our backyard (above). Have a happy Halloween! We are psyched here, even though we are pumpkin-less. Still time to grab a few tomorrow…
Project Runway….did you watch? Congrats to Gretchen. We were cheering for Mondo. *pouts*

Love love love cleverness. Love a good pun. Love cool tape. From Copernicus Toys. Their slogan: This tape goes to 11. *grin*
Thank you for the red apple searches. My mission is over. The story: our original cookie jar is long gone, but when my parents moved into their new home a few years back I sent Mom a new one. Since she hasn't been using it (doesn't match her color scheme) she is giving it back to me! Kinda cool that my new apple cookie jar is coming from her. We reminisced today about why she had the first one…..she thinks it was because we had a thing for big red apples. Me and her. My first word was apple. We would go to the Applebaum's grocery store and I would point to the big apple sign with a smiley face on it and call out "apple". I can still picture that place, and that sign. We would later refer to it as the Big Apple. Funny that I grew up in the Minneapple and now live near NYC. I couldn't find a photo of the old sign…but learned alot of cool history about the grocery store chain that evolved into Rainbow Foods, where my parents shop today!
One more kitchen memory: we had wallpaper with stripes of vintage-looking-fruit on it. I even tried to lick it after seeing Willy Wonka. The snosberries didn't taste like snosberries. *cracks self up*
What is your childhood kitchen memory? Have you reinacted anything from it in your own home?

Back in the 80's (when I was wearing Lauren, following a stint with Love's Rain Scent) I read this book. I love Andy's perspective on perfume, and glommed onto his idea of a scent museum.
As I told you, I collect evidence of my home fragrances as a gateway to memory, and I also document personal scents in my journal.
From the archives, we addressed scent in two Crusades. If you are looking of ways to incorporate your smell museum onto a page, come visit: No. 26 ~ Scent of the Season (December 2008) and No. 9 ~ What's That Smell? (June 2007)
It's a new season….have you selected a new fragrance to remember it by?
Don't stop at scents….music is another powerful bridge to memory. Document your favorite playlists too!
Ack! It's after 12. Time to order tickets for Apocalyptica….

I love fragrance. Especially in the home. I used to be a simple sniffer…..would check out the candles at the grocery store and would happy with a pear or melon scent. On occassion I might splurge and sniff around at Bath and Body for something a little more exotic, like tuberose. One Christmas Judi gifted me with Frosted Cranberry and I was hooked on that one….lit daily….restocked, lit more….until I realized it was seasonal and hard to get past January. Drats. Then Lisa entered my scent scene. She took me from Glade to gourmet. The first was Elton John's Fireside. Swoon. Like a woodburning fire mixed with mens cologne, the kind you like, not the kind that makes you gag. Lit daily…restocked, lit more…..until it was no longer available. Stalked ebay. Got more. Savoring the last one. THEN she found us Votivo: Champaca. Followed by Diptique: Feu du Bois. These are very special gifts as she *gets* my favorite scentage, they are stunningly gorgeous smelling, and they are not candles I would buy for myself. ($$$)
I keep this *scent graveyard* because I cannot part with the remnants of scent left in the bottom of the glass. I love taking a whiff now and again. The fragrant intake reminds me of treasured moments, and treasured friends.
Here's another thing about certain scents – you already know this – that it can transport you to a memory. I use that to play subliminal tricks on myself when in my studio….lighting a candle while working on a project so that the scent association launches me back to that creative mindspace when I resume working. I pour wax right on a page, or chip fragments of dried wax to tuck in my journals. Our senses are powerful tools.
For a time I was addicted to Cedar incense from Pier 1. Then they discontinued it. Drats. Happy news: my latest find is from Target. Chesapeake Bay Candle: Fireside. An affordable jar candle with that woodsy scent I love. After lighting it at home several nights I have confirmed it's a good one and will go back for more because I can't be without a scent in the home…..or my studio.

As requested, here are more photos from my Parlor Tricks book….followed by some workshop photos I borrowed from Kathy. It was frightfully fun!
I've been asked to offer this as an online class which I am giving some serious consideration. I'm facing a decision – whether or not to have it include a kit that has to be assembled and mailed, or if I should redesign the format so the punched paper and coils are not necessary and all parts could be offered as a printable download. I would love your feedback…..if you are interested, let me ask you this:
1. Would you want to receive a kit that is required to make a coil bound book?
OR
2. Would you prefer to download all the pieces and print from home?
