Ten years ago today would have been a Sunday. All the newspapers came out, reporting on the unfurling event. HEADLINES! Art on the front pages!
I was so happy to see that the anniversary got covered yesterday. See The Daily News revisit HERE. I was kinda hoping Google Doodle would have celebrated it. I'll continue tossing the confetti over here.

Today, February 12, is the 10th anniversary of the unfurling of The Gates – Central Park, New York City.
An epic undertaking by visionary installation artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude. In 2005, 2/12 was a Saturday, and the news, both local and national, covered the story of this significant event. The following morning every local newspaper had ART on the front page. Saffron glory.
The Gates remained in the city until February 27. Beginning today, I will be celebrating with 16 days of blog posts. It's my way of saying It Mattered. Come along with me.

Check out today's harvest of four leaf clovers. It was a beautiful day and I hit the jackpot when walking to to mailbox! They pulled through for Fallon and I as we shopped for prom dresses this afternoon. We were at the fifth store when we found a dreamy selection tonight. Whew! I think I will spread the luck around by offering a giveaway.
My talented friend Julie wrote (and photographed) this cool new book with her workshop partner Chris. They signed copy and Julie sent one for me to share with my faithful readers. How cool is that? Acrylic Solutions: Exploring Mixed Media Layer by Layer by Julie Prichard and Chris Cozen. You will love this one – super clever to have it as a spiral bound format so you can leave it open on your studio table and work through all the informative and useful chapters on creating with paint and all the juicy options for building in layers. It's one of those books that you will continue learning from as you endeavor to elevate your work. Don't you love when a book reveals lessons just when you need them? I've already put post-it notes on pages that I will return to soon. Lots of handsome visuals, and tons of great tips. If you want to see more, check out Julie's workshops. She powers out some stellar online classes, with well produced videos you can watch over and over, then get feedback and assistance as you work through the lessons. An amazing value, from the convenience of your own workspace.

This is my favorite time of year for finding four leaf clovers. The patches are just emerging from the sleepy earth and the friendly green weeds are perfect and unblemished (and not yet mowed). I've already scored about two dozen this month. My mission, being so early in the gathering season, is to find a tiny one. Here's what I know: if you find one four leaf clover, you are likely to find another in the same patch. Most people walk away with their luck before taking a second look. Here's my How-To for Pressing Your Luck, literally.
I'm thinking I might be pressing my luck, of another kind, by purchasing a lottery ticket. Hey, why not? It's been fun to watch the bounty raised for the MegaMillion drawing tonight. If I win, Shamrock Shakes are on me. Our son Peter came home from his convenient store job last night very tired from standing at the lottery till all evening. The lines were long at the ATM as neighbors collected cash then relined up at the register to wish on a number. Good luck!

The cool thing about typepad blogs is you can set up static pages where you can easily re-post visuals and information from previous posts. I'm culling my blog for useful information that can be organized and easily referenced on the tutorial page. It's a work-in-progress. So far I have completed reposting archived data on Carving Stamps to support an upcoming article I will have in Somerset Studio (May/June 2012). The article will discuss WHY to carve…..didn't want to waste the real estate on HOW, since that information can be found in many places, and now HERE.

Have you seen this one? It's been showing up recently on morning television. A 3-1/2 minute mini-film for Cartier. Beautiful. Reminds me of the Chanel ads from a few years ago.
