May is nearly here so that means the rose buds are starting to form, and the new Somerset Studio is showing up on shelves and in mailboxes.  My column is about making your own songbooks, celebrating favorite lyrics to beloved tunes.  I will be teaching Bohemian Rhapsody at The Ink Pad in NYC on Saturday, June 20th.  To learn more see HERE, and to reserve a spot, call 212·463·9876  I'll provide the music, the lyrics, and the accordion book.  Hope to see you there!

    Beautiful examples. I like the idea. Songs are often playing in my head when I wake up. Maybe by studying, not just thinking or singing, the lyrics, more information would be revealed. Love the range of your imagination. xo

    I love this. I have a journal http://abovethegwb.blogspot.com/2013/07/latest-music-journal-pages.html that I have been building for several years. I generally just do a page with the really significant (to me) lyrics out of a song. The link above goes to a GooGoo Dolls page and this http://abovethegwb.blogspot.com/2012/02/front-page-of-journal-leonard-cohen.html is the first page from a Leonard Cohen Song… I love the idea of expanding it to an accordion book, the class should be great fun…

    Jordi, thanks for chiming in and sharing your lyric pages! Like you I have made several journal pages with a line or two from a song, and even an entire song on a two page spread. It was fun to consider the entire song and how I think it would look in color. I have devoted an entire journal to one band and their song catalog. Even got them to sign it. Maybe I will revisit those on the blog.

    Oh wow, so many songs not enough time! I’m going to do one for “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” , a long time favorite. Love this idea & what a great gift idea for weddings, anniversaries, etc.!
