ruby tuesday project pages

Sometimes my journal pages show evidence of a project before, during, and after. Here I show my sketches, notes, remnant materials, and photos of completed project for the memorial boxes seen on the current Somerset Studio cover.

I've been asked about the poppy pods. Got them from ebay some time ago and was pleasantly surprised when they arrived as they were much larger than I ever expected. Couldn't resist spraying them red, especially for my memorial boxes. The red poppy signifying eternal sleep.

Wonderful to see your before/during/after journal pages. Usually I do sketches on white paper or index cards and either toss them when I am done or shove them in a box somewhere. Thanks for sharing your pages, love them!

I am stunned. I just started to follow your blog after seeing your link in a Art Journalling magazine from Stampington’s. When I saw that you were on the cover of Somerset Studio . . . yes, I also got that magazine yesterday. I immediately whipped to page 32 where your article jumped out at me. It was beautifully written and encouraging to my newbie creative soul. I had to comment on awesome this work was to read and observe in detail.
Then I come to your blog on July 13th and see all the work you went to in designing, laying out the materials, and “demoing” your plan. Do all mixed media artists take as much effort in the planning as you do? I honestly thought it was all “wing it” – being gather together the materials that appeal, get a background or canvas (whatever) and start work. If something isn’t quite right, just keep on adding paint, ink, gesso, color something to get to the point you want.
Your prep work is so much more professional looking! (and yes, rather daunting to my trial and error style of creativity.)
Whichever it is, please keep posting and sharing. You are an inspiration.

How organized you are. Do you do these pages before you finalize the projects or are they the “evidence journal” pages you’ve mentioned? If before, wow, how meticulous. Guess that makes the difference between a dabbler and a professional. I’ve always loved the graphic aspects of your work, the soft photos and the hard engraving-like lines of the architectural pieces. I second Lisa’s suggestion about a book of your journals, since you probably don’t want all of us dropping in on you.

Those poppy pods are really beautiful, both natural and spray painted red in those beautiful shrine boxes. Love the documentation journal pages too, looove your brown paper journals!

I absolutely love your memorial boxes–they made for an awesome cover on Somerset Studio and color me excited that you are going to be writing a regular column for the magazine, as well!!! “Make it your own”–an important message and I think you will do a fabulous job getting that mesage across.
