rent it, buy it, SEE it

PulseGirl told me about this one, like before it came out….and then she reported back on it’s amazingness merely a nano-second after she left her seat (might have texted me before she stood up).

I missed it in the theater, but got to watch it, and all the terrific extra footage on the dvd from the comforts of home.  Didn’t even have to worry that the movie house might be out of popcorn because I could make my own.  (Yes, it happened to us at Sweeney Todd, can you believe THAT?)  LOVE LOVE LOVE Julie Taymor and her passion.  (We saw her Magic Flute at the Metropolitan Opera on New Year’s Day, 2007). I always feel it’s a privilege to go behind the scenes to see the REAL people involved in making a film and to hear their vision and witness their enthusiasm.  If you saw it in the theater you might want to get the dvd just for that All Access Pass.

Did you love the whole strawberry painting scene and his studio room?  Swoooooon!

Makes me wish I had a paint ball gun and a big canvas wall.  Did you see The Princess Diaries?  Loved when the mom had balloons filled with paint hanging above a canvas and she threw darts at them so they’d pop and spill out and splatter randomly.  Tried to find a photo for you but came up empty.  Maybe this summer I’ll try it outside and show ya.

Oh. My. GOD. It’s synchronicity. I just watched Across the Universe on Friday, and have been obsessing over it all week since then! I bought the soundtrack, the DVD, I’d buy a coffee-table book if there was one. Strawberry Fields was one of my two favorite scenes, the other being Mr. Kite 🙂 Julie Taymor really is amazing. And were you as impressed as me that they did so well with the music? I’m always very skeptical of covers and especially of doing ANYTHING with the Beatles’ music, but the movie used it so very well. There was only one song that didn’t work for me, and it was just in the way it was arranged and sung; its place in the film was perfect. But yes, such an inspiring movie! I wish we could get prints of Jude’s strawberry wall.

The DVD is sitting on my kitchen table right now! My daughter watched it over the (last) week-end. She loved it!
My husband and I watched Elizabeth – loved it. I like period movies, set way, way back. Anything in old England is super.

I’m coming over to watch the movie (I will bring Ville) and I will bring my own super salty and buttery popcorn I gave up sweets for lent, so I can’t bring any mild duds.

    Hi Michelle…
I love going to the movie theater for the atmosphere and the people..but I really really love the extras on the DVD’s! Did you like Julie Taymores “Frida”? The extra commentaries by Julie made it so much more meaningful indeed!
Oh yes…Across the Universe is on my list of musts!
