one hand tied…..

I'm lucky it's my left hand that is out-of-commission.  I would be so bummed and restless if it was my right.  And thankfully I can still type….although it's slow-going fixing typos.  Oh, what happened exactly?  Not sure.  Self-diagnosis is a re-injury of the wrist, x-rays Tuesday.

My week has been spent preparing for an altered book class. I've been invited to teach a special full day workshop at the high school.  Loved revisiting this art form.  Fun to think about introducing it to students who have never heard of it.  They have no clue what coolness they are about to step into ;) I made a handout covering nearly twenty techiques so if we don't get to them all they can continue the work on their own.  Class is Monday.  I'll let you know how we do.

Have a great weekend.

    Michelle-
So sorry you are injured, but I agree left would be better than right!
It would be so cool to see the handout, see what the 20 techniques are! It would be great fun to see what the students come up with. Wish this type of art had been popular when I was in high school.
Have fun at the class! Hopefully you will share feedback?
Speaking of classes…how is the registration going for Parlour Tricks?
    Until later,

Poor Michelle! An injured hand is a real bummer, but least it wasn’t your master hand. Hopefully it will get better fast. I too would love to see the handout, and the results from the kids. Have a good weekend in spite of the hand and let us know what the x-rays show.

So sorry about your wrist – sending you positive thoughts for fast healing!
If, way back when I was in high school, there had been anything like you teaching an altered book class I would have loved art class! As it was the structure of the class environment and art was too much for me! Fortunately years later I made it back to my kind of art in spite of that art class.
    Lucky kids!

I hope the wrist gets better soon! Health issues are so frustrating; you can easily end up in pain mentally too! Baby yourself, instead.

I hope the wrist heals up quickly – sending healing juju your way…
The class sounds awesome ! It will be a fanatstically inspiring workshop for those kiddos ! As you said, a whole new world opening up… I love love love the pop-up heart page !!!!!
Have fun and ice up whenever you can !
    Hugs!
(Ps : Have you ever tried Arnica Montana gel ? You can get it in the health food section of most grocery stores around here. It is a homeopathic remedy that has been put into a gel (the company is called Bioron) and give a lot of pain relief for brusing, muscle and bone pain (good for David’s arthritis in the knees). Doesn’t work for too long but it is great to get a break from pain.)

Hope your paw feels better soon! And I have to say if I was in that high school class…well…my eyes would pop out of my head for sure. There was nothing even close to as cool as this in all of my scholastic ventures!

I’m sorry to hear about your wrist. But, better your left. I often wonder what I’d do if I injured my right hand or wrist. I envy those students. Have fun with the class.

is there a place available in that class ?:) Twenty techniques !!!!!
I’m sorry to hear you can’t use your left hand ! This is something people like us can miss ! My eyes and my hands … I could not miss them !
When my mom fell with her bicycle and developed the illness of Sudeck in her hand, I was sooo glad it wasn’t her right hand which she uses for drawing and painting….
I saw what happens when you loose the use of the other hand, so I really hope your problem is just temporary !

I just broke and had surgery on my right wrist. Fortunately, I am left-handed, but it sure has put a crimp in my creativity. I think I’ll start drawing again–I’m usually doing some kind of needlework. i sure am getting inspired looking at all these blogs!

such cool pics! I love/hate the idea of altered books. I’ve picked up books cheap/free to alter, then can’t do it. Just have so much trouble overcoming that command to not write in books.
I hope the wrist trouble is minor and that you won’t have to wear the brace very long. I just realized today that I need to be wearing my wrist braces at night for a while. Yes, that’s plural. I have a tendency to get tendenitis in both forearms & minor carpal tunnel syndrome.
I bet you had a blast with the kids today!

SO, would you be willing to share that handout? Please, please, please. The opportunity for both you and the students sounds awesome.
My daughter did an altered book project in art class this year. She had great fun with it. She is still working on her book and would love some new ideas techniques to incorporate into it. So, if you are willing to share, we would appreciate it.

Hi Michelle. I’ve been admiring your work pretty regularly and closely follow your Crusades! Love your stuff! I hope your wrist is nothing serious. I am interested to know where you got these wings. I’ve been looking all over for something similar. Is this a stamp you use, clip art? Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks!
