not so plain Jane

Mwpbsjane_2

Masterpiece Theater is treating us to 13 weeks of Jane Austen.  First up is Persuasion.  I can’t be certain, but I believe this was the first Austen book I read.  My friend Anne persuaded me  – by pointing out on the first page the mention of Kellynch Hall.  She’s a Lynch, I’m a Kelly.  Apparently she thought I needed a sign.  It worked.  I was hooked.  She keeps me up to date on the sequels and prequels and spin-offs written in Austen style including two more books that arrived this Christmas.  She’s got my back.  And I’ve got yours.  Put on the kettle and revisit, or discover, some Jane tonight.

EDIT:  I meant to remind you to look for these dvds in February – 2/5 The Jane Austen Book Club (which I missed in the theater) and 2/12 Becoming Jane, which I loved!

You knew I needed reminding. I read of this about a month ago and at the time I wondered how I would remember to watch it. So thanks! I’m hoping for a visual feast.

I just set this up. In order to set it up I had to interrupt the football game. I almost got in trouble. But that’s what my life is like! On the edge!!
    Thanks so much for sharing.

Oh my! I luv PRide & Prejudice… I’ve seen it fifteen … no wait… 16? 17? times. First in college, but it has become a yearly event to watch the series with my husband. Somewhere I saw an art challenge relating to Jane? Was it SS? Create a bag that Ms. Austen would carry? OO, my memory fails me… I must sit a spell. Wait, perfect opportunity to ask, what exactly does, “I’ve got the vapors!” mean? lol xo, Monica

Is this the set that Georgie Henley (who plays Lucy now in the Narnia movies) was in one of? I’m not much of a Janeite, but I love Sense and Sensibility, and I’d love to see whichever one Georgie is in!

p.s. just read that uk tv viewers will get the latest from bbc in spring – miss austen regrets -, “olivia williams plays jane at 40, looking back at her life and keenly aware of the gulf between the romance of her fiction and her own luck in love.”

It’s a nice version of Persuasion. Rupert P-J as the captain is spot on. I’d wait for him !The others are pretty darn good too although I liked Mansfield Park least – too much of the book was missed out but then it is also my least favourite of the books. The Beeb just finished S & S on Sunday. A lovely version. Enjoy!

please, please don’t be hatin’ on me Jane fans…cuz I know the “jane-people” can be pretty intense, lol!
but I just have to say, as much of a reader as I am, I could never get ‘into’ the jane books like a lot of people do, and i was always actually surprised by that…so anyway, am going to Tivo the movies and see if I do any better with the movies than I did with the books…
thanx for the heads-up, and I really want to love her and be a “jane-person” too!

I got here through Susanna’s blog and just wanted to say I also enjoyed “Becoming Jane”. Thanks for the info on the PBS special, which I didn’t know about. I have seen some of the movies, but it is always exciting to re-visit them. As for “Becoming Jane”, do you believe that when the movie first came out, there was only one theater in New Jersey that was showing it (at least around my area)? And since no one is as a freak as I am about Jane Austen, I ended up watching it alone 😉 I loved it!
Have fun watching the movies on PBS!
I ‘m glad I stopped by. That is the great thing about blogs-you always find interesting people and learn something new.
