more carving

Last time I showed you some of my research and sketches….the intention was to start painting, to see where the fresh perspective and forming ideas would take me.  However, I couldn't find solid blocks of time to paint so I spent little blocks of time carving more stamps.  Test prints go into my journal.

On an evening walk I came upon the decaying leaf.  I can't even see anything up close anymore without glasses so I love that I can zoom in with my camera for a magnified view.  The skeleton veins look like maps, don't you think?  The thicker ones could be rivers…the smaller ones might be divisions of farmland?

I love the larger carved stamp, although the round ones are awesome too! Loving this narrative.

Gorgeous work! I love looking out of the plane window when I fly and always wonder how to capture the magnificence into art – I think you have done it beautifully!

Fantastic! Of course my favorites of your new stamps are the tree ring looking ones and the big waves-and-woodgrain one. Of course. Me = Squirrel, ergo Me <3 Trees 😉 But all of these new stamps you’ve carved are great! And you’re right, the veins of the leaf really do look like a roadmap! Leaves can be so beautiful on their own that I never really thought about that before.

Thanks Carrie. Yes, top ones are meant to be tree rings, with heavy bark at edge. I did not know you identified with squirrels. I will think of you every morning while I watch them scurry around on my deck.

I love what your doing with stamp carving. I just recently got into it. I can’t seem to stop! I’m using nature as my inspiration. I always go back to that for art of any kind. I also have to say I love, love your Black and White work. Congratulation on the Somerset Studio issue. Can’t wait to see it!!!!
