hip hip….

MWrosehips1
I was cleaning up around my garden yesterday and was pleasantly surprised that amongst all the green and yellowing leaves of my rose bushes there were scores of lovely hips.  I never knew they came from the last blooms left on the stems.

Remember when I said I was going to leave that last bud to grow?  Look what she produced!  I gathered up a handful of hips and was so inspired by the organic shape that I cut a few stencils to use in my Ruby Tuesday journal.  Check back tomorrow to see what I came up with.

I have several rolls of tyvek, purchased from ebay years ago that work really well as stencils and masks.  The stuff doesn't tear but it is super easy to cut.  Plus – the material takes paint nicely so the tool can double as an element on a page.

My friend Kathryn and I seem to follow synchronistic paths….she blogged some lovely hip photos yesterday.  Go SEE.

Love that every bit of that sweet flower, from bud to the scent to the hip finds its way into your art. A true exploration of an important symbol for you, talented One.

Love this post. Your images are beautiful.
I have scraps of tyvek around here somewhere…! I kept them last summer when we re-sided the house. Now I know what to do with them.

Tyvek, how brilliant is that…that stuff is really indestructible. Your stencils are stunning and I am anxious to see what you create with your rose’s last gift of the season. xox

This made me laugh – cos people like me who never weed or prune or whatever know just how hips get there! Love the stencils – way cool.

Your rose hip cut-outs are fabulous. I adore the shape of rose hips and they make a very interesting graphic element. I have the biggest smile as I think about our synchronistic paths. I was so surprised when I saw many roses on my walk around Boston yesterday. Of course I thought of *YOU*
