heads up

Mwheadsup

An exciting announcement:  Just confirmed, the story I wrote here (and follow-up here) last fall about our visit to Marineland, is going to be published in the new Chicken Soup for the Soul:  Celebrates Children with Special Needs.

One of my readers suggested I send it in, so I did!  Cool?  Yes, very.  It’s been edited a bit but they are including a picture, something new to me in these fine books.  THIS is an honor that truly touches me.  The book comes out October 2007.  You can pre-order at Amazon or take advantage of a special through Autism Today:  buy 2 get a 3rd free, HERE.  (Sample stories available there too.)

And in case you missed the tiny clip I caught on my digital camera, look here.  We are heading back to Marineland in one month, can’t wait to see our friends again!

You are one busy lady!!! So incredibly talented in every way.
Found you through Ro and her “street team” photo. I hope I can find the time to get something together and join in the creative process. Blogging is an exciting place, for sure. I love to trace back to how I came upon certain people. In fact, Susanna is a good friend of my friend Constance, whom I met doing a craft show on Long Beach Island. Ro knows Judy (Red Velvet) who I met in Italy last year doing a workshop with Michael DeMeng. We are doing an altered book round robin with some others ……and the list goes on.
    I shall return!

Sam is ‘special’ and the orcas sense it. The orcas don’t sense autism – they just sense Sam’s love for them. Wish we were all as special as Sam.
I am priveleged to live in an area where I can take a walk and see dolphins and whales — and I have looked into their eyes……and I feel like they are looking into my soul. I believe the orcas do that when they see Sam.
Thank you Sam, for reading to the orcas and showing them your books – and recognizing what many of us wrapped up in our lives don’t. We are all so connected.

Michelle, Remember Mrs. Guillule from MLKing? Maureen just told me she also will have a story in the same book. How cool is that! I am so happy that Sam’s story will be read by many people. I love Chicken Soup for the Soul books! I go thru a box of tissues when I read them. HUGS <>< Ms. Julie

Oh Michelle…..your story really touched a note with me. Our granddaughter, Margo, is autistic and I have made it one of my goals during this recent retirement to take her two days a week and just work with her as the therapists do. Having been an elementary art teacher for the past 20 yrs. I have had many autistic children in my class……but it is different when it is your own. Your story being published is such an honor and I am thrilled for you! Congrats!!!!!! It is probably more exciting than being published in Somerset Studio:D Thanks for sharing Sam with us and your story……..Linda

    Michelle,
I found your website because I love your art and am a mixed media artist myself but I also have a connection in another way…I work with toddlers with autism in a school district in southern cal.
This story is wonderful!!! I cried (happy tears) I wish more people would see “our” kids the way we do and the way Nicholas saw Sam’s spirit…it would be a much nicer world. Thank you for sharing this story and I will be buying the book! me…karen b…

This is really wonderful news Michelle! Congrats to all of you. I know Sam’s story of last summer by heart now. I’ve been sharing it in a class I teach to new Staff which includes some education on Autism. It’s been a year now and my eyes still well with tears each time I tell it. My heart is so proud of all of you that were involved that glorious day. Thank you for changing our lives by sharing your life.
