I've seen more tributes to our serviceman through the NFL than anywhere else. The ceremony prior to last night's game was moving. Sadly, I rarely see poppies being sold here, unlike in England, where they are everywhere. Let's bring back the poppy!

Growing up I remember the paper poppies, available, it seemed, everywhere. The British display is stunning, I can only imagine what it is like in person. xo

MK, Fallon and I witnessed the poppies not only at Westminster (in 2012) but everywhere in England….gigantic ones on street posts in Birmingham, for sale at every corner shop, and on the lapels of every person walking the sidewalks, manning the stores and restaurants, and on the news channels. I also remember being able to get one every year – they were sold everywhere. If they weren’t on a lapel, they were hanging from a rear view mirror. Can’t recall the last time I saw one stateside.

Thank you for your tribute to the veterans, Michelle. The display at the Tower is amazing and so moving. It brings tears to my eyes. You’re right about the poppies being absent from the states. I remember when I was a child the VFW would hand out paper poppies at our towns Halloween parade in return for a small donation. I was too young to know the significance but I thought the poppies were wonderful.
Beautiful tribute. I love what they did at the Tower this year, it really is stunning. I guess the reason we don’t do poppies here anymore is because our troops didn’t have quite the connection to Flanders Field that the Brits did. I agree with you, though, that we should bring them back! A simple and elegant symbol.
