Crushing….

Can’t see myself wearing this, but….

Sometimes you just accumulate things because they move you.  You don’t know why you have to have it other than it makes you happy to look at it, right?  This pin captures so much of what I love – the elements of design make me swoon.  I pretend it’s the underside of a cathedral dome, looking down on me as I visit my favorite city. Why am I sharing this?  Because I’m on a Crusade

In the background, left, you can see part of St. Mark’s Basilica.  Would love to arrive there by water.

One more view of architecture in Venice, and how about that chair?!  Need one!

And you can’t talk about Gothic Architecture without mentioning the Palace of Westminster, more commonly called the Houses of Parliament.  On the far left is Westminster Abbey, and the far right is the Clock Tower, usually called Big Ben (nicknamed for the bell within).

A stunning close-up, or two…..

In addition to architecture, I adore gothic-style fonts.  Fonts, in general, are an infatuation we all share, don’t we?  Here are a few of my faves, each style showcased as it’s font name.

And I’ve been crushing for a long time on Lucky Brand jewelry.  Here’s another cool line, very gothy don’t you think?  More found HERE.

And to finish, some stamps I’ve done for other lines.  You’ve already seen my WayWard stamps.  Did you spy some Gothic influence?  You can be sure you’ll be seeing more of that in my new rubber.  (Still toiling away on the designs.  Can’t stop myself!)

Confessions of a Gothic Style Addict.  A style is defined by much more than architecture and jewelry, but these are images I collect to enter in my journals or pin up on my bulletin boards because I like to surround myself with images that feed me.

I have lots of crushes, (yeah, I know you know that) and will share more soon.  In the meantime, check out some of the ones posted by the players on our Street Team.  And join us by sharing yours!

You have a special talent for photographing architecture-I could take a photo of the same thing & it wouldn’t look nearly as interesting-lol! Love that brooch-and it’s so YOU!

Awesome post! I love much of the same designs. So when a girl stumbles across pages of Gothic images (http://etc.usf.edu/clipart/searchEverything.php?page=4&term=gothic), it makes her want to make PS brushes out of them! ;^)
Gotta track down some of those way-cool fonts now!

I remember calling you one year on Jan 2nd and asking if you saw Big Ben at midnight the night before? Yes, you answered and I am already designing a clock face stamp for you!” I have always loved your designs.

How fabulous! I’ve always had a passion for the Gothic as well, fueled by my love of the Middle Ages and the Victorian era. Been trying to find ways of bringing that into my craft. You have done such beautiful things with Gothic elements! Of course you have such stunning inspiration in San Marco and Westminster. Beautiful photos!

hello gothic queen! i certainly would love that chair, how cool is that? did you know that the typeface we love is called fraktur (german bien sรปr!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraktur_%28typeface_sub-classification%29 and you have to pronounce the Rs really hard, especially the first one!
ooh, selfridges had the coolest window display in london, totally forgot about it – sooo gothic. took pics, especially the leather skirt with crosses all over. reminded me so of you, but the glass was too reflective. need to send them to you anyway. isn’t amy brilliant, just love her voice (and music) …

I can totally relate to your gothic infatuation! Esp. the Italian architecture. I have your gothic arch stamp from Stampington and I have used it numerous times! I have always obsessed on the European history and all of it’s richness. So cool!

Hi Michelle, I have been searching the net for hours! I am soooooooo glad that I found you! I have a question, and from the feeling I get from this site, you will know the answer. Can you tell me what kind of font is used on the clock faces of the tower that houses Big Ben? It is weird but I can’t find the information anywhere. I know that Pugin designed them as gothic, but The numbers on the face on the clock are different than anything I have ever seen. 10 is the symbol I am most interested in. It is not an X like I thought it would be. It looks more like an E of F, but I just can not find a good enough picture to tell.
I appreciate you for your passion, and thank you for your help.
    Marc

I am totally in love with these too. I learnt a lot about them during Art History and I am so happy you have rubber stamps of blue prints etc. Your work makes my heart happy. ๐Ÿ™‚
