change

School ends tomorrow.  Time becomes less frantic.  Days become long and lazy.  The change of season brings a change of style – not only in what we wear, and maybe what we eat, and how we fill our days….but maybe how we create too.  For me, I see my color palette change…does yours?  (Ok, so I'll never give up red and black).

As a fan of Tim Russert I was shocked, as you were, to learn he had passed away.  Over the weekend we watched countless hours of his friends honoring him with their stories, re-runs of Meet the Press, and the special edition in Sunday.  This afternoon we watched the memorial service.  What a man.  His enthusiam was infectious.  I was touched they arranged for The Boss play out the service…but even more…I was impressed at the intro….you might have missed it….the journalist mentioned that as the hundreds of people were filing in, the music playing was taken from Tim's ipod.  As was obvious, his loved ones GOT him.  Here's what was they heard:

“uniformity is undesirable”… did you wrote this for me ? i’ve been struggling with the call for “uniformity” in our school for the past few weeks ! I feel sad about it, everything must be the “same”, everything must be put in “rules”… I agree that there must be a bit of uniformity, but there should be some room for creativity in thinking, acting, creating also ..
So , your journal speaks to me !
I know you’re in black and red, but the green and pink suits you too ! It tells about a colorful summer ! enjoy the vacation, we have one week to go, and then…..I’m looking forward to time to create, to blog, to read blogs,….
I didn’t knew who Tim Russert was, so I looked it up with google… He past away too soon, that’s for sure !
    greetings

Your journaling brought back memories of our workshop together a month ago. I happened to be on Capitol Hill last Friday and heard the sirens wailing — little did I know who they were transporting …. Your “freebird” for Tim Russert touched me. He is soaring with the eagles and the angels now. May we always remember to live each day as if it were our last one on this plane of existence!

Yes, summer is for COLOUR! And I like your “you can complain that roses have thorns or you can rejoice because thorns have roses” quote. 🙂 And, yes, Tim Russert was well respected, wasn’t he? The YouTube bit was fun to listen to but especially to read as it went on and on and on… hee!

I was taking a class on Saturday and someone said, can you believe all this to-do about this one guy (Russert)? When we have a war going on? I couldn’t believe she said it. I responded, but I won’t go into that.
    Thank you for honoring him.

    Hi michelle,
Loving your summer palettes ! The turquoise, green and black is my palette all year round ! The page where you used it is gorgeous and the quote really fit my mood today. Thanks for sharing it !
As a Canadian girl, I didn’t really know Tim Russert very well but I have watched the footage of his family and the country dealing with his loss with my American hubby. His relationship with his family was obviously such a rich one.. it is all so sad for them to have lost him so soon… The Freebird song struck me so much … we played it for my dad, along with “Fly like an Eagle” at his funeral 12 years ago… my dad, the Hawkman Rocker.. we got him too…

Yeah, my mom works with a guy that had been good friends with Tim Russert since grade school. It was very upsetting. By all accounts he was a really down to earth and kind man.
But on a lighter note, yes, my colors do change for summer! I start going for more hot pink, more lime green, more turquoise. Those tropical colors! And almost always as an accent to my ever-present basic black 🙂 I love your journal pages up there. Especially the Summer 2008 one at top. Flamingo pink!

I totally agree with Becky’s comment…doesn’t matter what color you work in, I LOVE your journals and always swoon when you post your pages…just gorgeous, Michelle. Lovely tribute to TR. I always enjoyed him on Meet The Press–tough and smart, but his really-good-guyness always came thru overall. Rest in Peace Tim.
    Happy Summer Ward family! xox

Beautiful Journal pages, Michelle. As I paged down I noticed a pattern . The verticals on the right side of the pages, the circular themes.
Thanks for the Tim Russert mention.
    Happy summer!

I Too watched the coverage of Tim’s passing and the tributes. What an amazing man and what a horrible loss- I have gotten very into watching MSNBC this political season and the love and compassion that he felt for his coworkers was palpable. His son is an amazing person and I pray that we could all take care of each other the way that he took care of others!!
Your journals are amazing- just love them!!
Enjoy your summer- see YA on The STREET!!
    Hugs!

Hi, just a fellow paper artist stopping by to check you out after seeing you in Somerset Life. You’ve inspired me to stamp (and post!) more. But a SAHM w/ 3 kids must wait ’til summer’s over…and blog sparingly in the meantime.
