Belated Wishes!!!!

What Dad takes an 8 year old to see a concert?  A Dad that knows he’s got a rabid fangirl in the house and he’ll get to see her flip out with the purest enthusiasm a full heart can express.  Then when she’s 13 he’ll take her and a group of friends to see another concert (KISS).  Now that I’m a parent I can comprehend why my father was willing to escort me to these dreamy events.  Creating memories, powerful ones.

I’m certain I had no idea David Cassidy was coming to town – I was only 8.  Dad must have read it in the paper and knew I’d get a kick out of it.  To put the fangirl scenario into perspective for you – I would play my albums on my bright orange close-and-play record player continuously.  My friends and I would lip-sync to the Partridge Family for the neighbors who had to PAY to see us perform in our garage.  (So that’s where garage bands came from!)  I even had a faux microphone stand made from a t-ball "t" with my twirling baton stuck in it.  Occassionally I would use a screwdriver as a mic with a piece of yarn dangling….because remember, all mics had cords and it was cool to do stuff with the cord while singing.  Oh yeah, I had all the moves.  And I had the hair-cut….shagged out just like his so I got to be Keith.  Hair, check.  Mic stand, check.  Bell bottoms with hip-hugger waste and big belt, check.  Lip-sync, check.  (Hang on….a girl playing Keith Partridge?  I was proud to do it…I knew all the words.)  And Friday nights?  In front of the tv watching the show, of course.

Still love ya David.  Can you stand it?  Brown Eyes on YouTube.  There are more clips….dig around.  Swoon.

You make a great FAN. I thought he wrote that song for me though. Love those sprayed jeans. Everything you touch turns to GOLD. I love coming over here and seeing what’s new. You never fail to charm and inspire.

Your post brought back such memories for me…I had a huge crush on David, and my cousins and I also used to lip-synch to the show and pretend we were the band! Many a fight broke out when we argued over who got to be each character!!

Ooooh…. I absolutely love this story. Thank you so much for sharing. I was in-love with the Bay City Rollers and turned my once perfectly floral-wallpapered room into a visual sensation of Scottish boys! From floor to ceiling were Les, Eric, Woody, Ian and Alan! But alas, Andy Gibb came along and they were gonzo. Oh, to relive those special, girlhood times. Wouldn’t it be fantastic to go back if even just for a minute?

He was a first for me too – still have a school class photo with about three of us fans holding his photo in our wallets for the school photographer – gee that was way back in the 70’s – great post.

The same kind of Dad that takes a 15 year old to see Paul Revere and the Raiders in a city 200 miles away. Where the heck is Mark Lindsay now and does he have gray hair too??

You know , I was in love with him too. I remember thinking very seriously to myself that ‘this was going to last a long , long time’ – and it did , actually. And as I’m almost 6′ now , I’m pretty sure we were about the same size then lol. And I STILL love the Partridge Family songs (and the Monkeys – CAN’T forget the Monkeys. ‘Ooh it’s DAVEY’ and running to kiss the tv)
    *SQUEEEEEEE!*
And thanks SO much for finally giving me the excuse I needed to use that word in a sentence. Online. It’s already been put to use here around the house lol. It cracks me up and it sounds for all the world like it should be immediately followed by a panty change lol.
    I just love it.
    🙂

And Elvis too , can’t forget him either. He was my very first album I bought that wasn’t made by Disney , lol.
