BANKSY

Banksy_1

Sure, there are arguments against public display of spray painting…..  But BANKSY?  I love this guy.  I found his books on ebay – tiny little volumes that show some of his clever tagging around London.  Just look at his titles – you know he has a sense of humor.  One of my favorites photos is lowest left,  "this is not a photo opportunity".  Can you imagine posing for the tourist type picture with Big Ben in the background, only to get home and see this tag on the concrete IN YOUR PHOTO?  I would crack up!  And lowest right….this is more cleverness.  It does not say "Police Line – Do Not Cross"….it says "Polite Line – Do No Get Cross".  He kills me.  He’s also the guy you may have read about who hung his own artwork in the several New York Museums, read about that HERE .

Thanks to YouTube, you can see a newsblurb about him:

    yeah Banksy rocks!!
my 17 year old son is his greatest fan
I’ve seen a few of his works close up
was annoyed to remember after THAT gig at the R/House last year that he has one right up the side of the venue and I forgot to look. I was a bit distracted though 🙂

I never came across any of his work and I am bummed. I just moved back to the US from London. I will be going back in the next month or two for a short vacation and will make sure to look out for his work. Too cool. By the way, your article in SS about the spray paints was totally rocking. I have you to blame for my slightly off green ventilation screen that got sprayed by mistake!!!LOL

I just watched the video. Isn’t the culture show awesome. Check out those very English accents; I am English but my accent has some American mixed in and I always wish it were more pure but that is the influence of living on many continents.
Isn’t Youtube the best thing since sliced bread??!!?? It rocks!! Thanks for posting; I am defintely getting the book. I am amazed at how you can produce such awesome artwork with stencils…. to be continued.
