are you with me?

Mw_help

Just this afternoon Shannon, my sister, told me she learned she can access the computer from her hospital room.  HELLO?  Why wasn’t this brought to our attention earlier?  She’s been cooped up for over a month and they just tell her now?  Ok, so she’s not an internet junkie like I am so she probably didn’t ask….but now we know.  SO…..I’m thinking it might be a gas if I sent her an email tomorrow and said ‘hey, have you been to my blog lately?’ and when she gets here she’ll first roll her eyes (at me) and then she will be so touched and overwhelmed by all your messages.  What do ya think?  Wanna join me?

Mw_rx

They have been doing what they can with adjusting meds and all that, but I think there are very powerful things that assist the way to wellness – things that can’t be bottled or sent via IV to battle cystic fibrosis like gestures, words, and presence.  Since I can’t be there right now I thought I’d muster up, with your help, all the cheer we can manage from our keyboards.

For_shannon

Some years ago there was an invented saying for cystic fibrosis:  sixty-five roses.  I think it came from a child that mis-heard or mis-said the name of the disease (much easier to say).  So my goal is get at least 65 comments. Are you with me

Those photos of you two are AMAZING! What I always find intriguing in family or friend photos is that a lot of the time I didn’t remember the exact look of the event, and sometimes I didn’t even know the photo was being taken (clearly, you two knew you were being *watched*)! And how quickly can photos bring back to us… a) what was happening, 2) how much we loved that time or if we didn’t love it, see it with new appreciation, c) wish for that time to return or be repeated, 4) intend to cherish times like these more and more, and e) maybe even make great moments like this happen again!
Regardless, these captured moments enrich our appreciation of what we have, what we’ve built, what we contributed, and what we often are too busy to think about. But they are real, and they are evidence, and they are alive. And we take a few new, present moments to recall, to think of the smells and sounds, and the things we thought we’d forgotten (like, a favorite shirt, a favorite birdcall, a favorite term of endearment, a favorite joke), and it makes life so mysterious and so good. We are very blessed.
Many cherished moments wished to you!

Dear Shannon (AKA Shandy, AKA Godmother),
You need to get well soon! How is the food in the hospital, do you get noodles and chocolate icecream? Ask for as many chocolate things as you can get. Here is a poem for you
    Spring..
    Summer is soon
    Plants are growing
    Rabbits have their babies
    Icecream is everywhere
    Night is still light
    Gardens are pretty

    Dear Shannon,
Are you sick of being at the hospital? I would be!
What do you do at the hospital? We just started poetry in school and we took a walking field trip today to find things to write about. I am going to write about the American flag in the wind.
    Feel better!

I can “see” your health returning.
I can “feel” you breathing easier.
Please know that you are surrounded by Love and Light.
Hospitals can be SUCH a drag. Here’s to knowing that you will be back home soon.

Hey if you are getting internet access in the hospital, can you have Grandma come by and check out the e-mails? She hates feeling left out of the e-mail world!
I here you are hanging out eating bon-bons again. (I actually tried to find some to send to you, but no luck-how funny would that be, for once you would actually be hanging out eating bon bons!). And what have I told you about beach time! Skip this month in the hospital stuff next year and tell that Dr. to write a prescription for a month in the Carribean, laying on the beach. Better yet, tell him you need your cousin to come with you!
All the Murphys are sending positive thoughts your way-although I must admit I altered Annmarie’s words because if I spelled them like she actually talks, there would be no s ir r or l! Sometimes her sisters interpret for her like its another language.
Its actually Spring like weather here finally, and hopefully in MN too so I hope you get out soon to enjoy it!!!!!

I hope you’re feeling better soon. Glad to hear you have internet access in the hospital. That should help pass the time. If you aren’t a cyber junkie yet you probably will be by the time you go home. There is so much to see and one site leads to another. You read one blog and click a link to another and another and before you know it you’re deliberately checking in to see how your favorite blogger’s sister is doing. It’s crazy but it’s so much fun.

10 fun things to do while in the hospital:
    1. Invent an imaginary friend. Call her Heidi. Let nature take its course.
    2. Learn the words to one hard-core gangsta rap song. Change the melody to that of an Irish folk ballad and sing it under your breath each time a nurse walks in your room.
    3. Call a library telephone reference service and beg them to help you figure out how many heads it would take to fill Yankee Stadium. When you’ve found someone game enough to do it, and they’ve done their laborious calculations, say, “Thank you. Now, that is in rabbit heads, isn’t it?”
    4. Spend 10 minutes talking directly into nurse call box. Be sure people hear you apologizing profusely, promising to be good from now on, and calling the box “Babycakes.”
    5. Ask strangers if they have change for a nickel.
    6. Call National Acme Company. Ask if they have any products you could use to kill a roadrunner.
    7. Announce your candidacy for President.
    8. Ask visitors if they want to see your “belly button treasure”
9.Determine how many cups of coffee is “too much”.
10.Finish the 99 bottles of beer song.
    Get well soon!!
    All the best,

    Hello Shannon,
Just stopped by to see what our Michelle has been up to…..and to nudge her to create more new ‘rubber stamps’ for those of us that are artistically challenged. :o)
I live in Red Wing, MN. and FOR ONE DAY we had a glorious blue sky day with nice sandal weather and now it is cool again and grey, rainy and expecting colder temps for the weekend. I have a new hot tub sitting out on the deck waiting for the electrician to come hook it up. I know you know this already that Minnesota only has about 10 good hot tubbing/swimming days, grand total!! :o) Still, I wanted one……..
On the bright side, the flowers are bursting through so anxious to put in an appearance. Nature is such a marvel. To think anything would want to grow after a Minnesota winter is downright amazing!!
Here is a poem for you:
    Spring has sprung
    The grass has riz’
    I wonder where
the birdies is? (From lonnnnng ago in a comic strip….. but it still tickles me!)
My Doctor’s wife has Cystic Fibrosis and he shares with me of her struggles.
He is such a lovely man and he adores her to pieces!
Please get well soon so that you can go home where you will be really comfy and back with your own ‘Stuff’.
We love your sister and we will adopt you too and love you as well.

Hi Shannon, Having known Michelle for years and having met your Mom at a couple of classes (she is without a doubt the sweetest thing ever!) I know with absolute certainty that you are every bit as wonderful as your sister & your Mom, and most likely the whole family, hope I have the pleasure of meeting you someday. The bond between sisters is strong and special, and not to be taken lightly-I know, I lost my little sister when she was just 13. It’s obvious that Michelle values that bond, with her at your side & watching your back, you’ll be well taken care of and will have strong positive thoughts sent your way from every corner of the earth. Stay strong, we’ll all help, and give Michelle a huge hug just for being her, and for you being fortunate enough to have her strength watching over you. I suspect that she’s a formidable force in protecting her family, and that’s just how it should be!

    Dear Shannon,
I found out about this late, but wanted to send you good wishes anyway. Hospitals are so dreary, but it’s spring and everyday I see more flowers out. I even saw a bumblebee yesterday. Here’s hoping that you have lots of sun and flowers when you get out.

I know I’m late and you’ve already reached 65, but there can never be too many good wishes, right? I hope you feel better, and give em all hell! With the internet, you should try stalking some cool blogs! Love and art heals so much. But above all, stay positive and know that you’ve now got lots of new friends hoping and praying for you.

Ok, so I lurk your sister’s blog almost daily and I see her post gushing with ‘sister love’…of course I HAD come out of my ‘blog closet’ to post. Girl, if you have internet access GO for it! As one who has had her share of staring at hospital walls, having cyber access was better than a morphine drip!
Be well…Sending healing thoughts from San Jose, CA
