tip: stencil/mask storage

Do as I say, not as I do. Truth be told, I don't always put my stencils away. I often toss them in a cardboard palette or a massive file folder. Every once in a while I will set to the task of arranging into binders, according to style. There is an alphabet binder, and one for fronds, one for patterns, some handcut, some commercial….

Many stencils come packaged in clear envelopes or bags. Why not add some easy DIY tabs and keep them stored in a three ring binder? Supplies required: binder, packing tape, 1/4" punch. Done! For stencils that don't come with packaging: page protectors!

Yep, I started using page protectors to store my stencils and masks. Though your large ones don’t fit in a page protector! So I keep those in a file folder, with a sheet of paper in between each one.

Oh so organized !!!
I have mine all in a gallon sized ziploc bag. Not great for the stencils and yes, it is hard to find the one I want.
Maybe next time I go on a organizing rampage in the studio !

Great minds think alike, Michelle. I’ve been putting mine into page protectors of various sizes and storing those in a 3-ring scrapbooking binder.

I keep mine in page protectors and add a paper insert to the side of the page protector if the stencil’s too big. Just one big file though, no sense of order to it 😉

So nice to see your stencils still have paint on them. I keep spending ages trying to get mine perfectly clean (to no avail). I have a couple fo large 12 x 12 ones which are folding over slightly from being stood up, so might have to look into this idea.

So funny… I just bought page protectors for my collage materials. My stencils are smashed flat into a storage container made for portable crop storage. But to see them I always have to flip through. Of COURSE, GPP would have the solution. And I have page protectors, and I have a binder.
Hmmm… must get more stencils, now.
