  • new article “inside out”

    The March/April issue of Somerset Studio just arrived.  I am thrilled for my friend Anna who is on the cover and inside with the Artist Profile – her signature work is lovely and unique.  Since the theme is Mail Art my column features art made with security envelopes, and then I segued into using postage stamps.  If you've been following my blog you know I love these security paper patterns, found on the inside of the dreaded bills.  I've been collecting and cataloging for years – now I can't stop making stuff with them.

  • confessions of a packrat

    Do you tear off the used postage from your holiday cards every year like I do?  It's a habit I started years ago, and I'm happy to admit I have stashes of lovely stamps to use in my art.  I'll take yours if you don't want them.  Really.  Tear off the corner, and save it for me.  P.O.Box 73, Piscataway, NJ 08854

    Tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. Central Standard Time, registration begins for the workshops at Valley Ridge.  It's the only place I have committed to teach at for next year.  If you are thinking of taking the class with me you might want to save your used postage, right now, and tuck it away until October.

  • Love at my Door

    First, some more ETSY love.  Gosh I adore that place.  It’s so cool to see artists making and selling their heartfelt creations.  It’s like having an indie boutique down the street.  First up:  Art and Ghosts.  The masked girl on the right has arrived from England.  Just charming.  Check her out.

    Next, Julie @ Puffluna.  HAD to have that red rose ring.  I see she is now selling black and amber too.  Might need one for every finger.  Check her out….maybe a Valentine gift to yourself?

    And then I found these cameos and cabochons from Robin at A2Z Designs….supplies for your heart art??

    And last for today, Nicole’s custom die-cut paper shop HERE.  Yes, you’re onto me….I’m going to use them as masks.  I know what you’re thinking:  Better go get some for yourself.

    And more lovin’ at my door….from Susan Warder, who blew me away with her clever heart stencil on the envelope, mimicking the postage stamp.  And what a delightful surprise to open and see a stencil she cut for me.  THIS ROCKS!  Thanks Susan!

    More cool stuff from some love-spreaders who Get me.  I’m such a lucky girl.  And Faye, my mail carrier, gets a kick out of delivering the goods.

    And a last thought for the day.  We are heading off to a comedy club for dinner and a performance as a fundraiser for a family we love who lost their son this year.  He battled cancer and was finally C-free but was taken by the angels in April.  I cannot begin to imagine their pain….but applaud them for moving forward by establishing a foundation that will do good things in Sean’s name, and to do so with an event where we can all bury sadness for a breif moment, and laugh together.

    And this cool envelope came from Luxembourg!  Belinda kindly sent this fan girl a Metal Hammer magazine with adorable photos of my favorite rock star.  How cool is she?  Very, go see her cool art too.  Additional magazines featuring the band also came last month from Susanne in Sweden, and friends in England.  Could you hear me squealing over there?

    Have more cool mail art to share…need to take a few photos first.  Have even more mail art to make….I’m behind!  Hey, we had a flood in the basement Sunday and I still was doing my taxes yesterday.  I need a creative fix!
